The fellow who designed it was not happy with the assignment. He wanted
to work on schedulers and other real time aspects of the system.
When he had to name the extension, he used the initials of his mother in
law, 1 letter off. (Nancy Quincy Quartermaine).
Apple engineering and marketing didn't catch on for a while. When they
did the file name extension was too deeply coded and all over release candidates and too much of a mess to cleanup.
