• Disable or Remap Magic Keyboard Lock Key

    From Colour Sergeant Bourne@bourne@rorke.za to comp.sys.mac.system on Sun Oct 6 16:19:31 2024
    From Newsgroup: comp.sys.mac.system

The upper right key on my Apple Magic Keyboard has a lock icon and locks
the computer back to the login screen. It sits immediately above the
Delete Key so I frequently hit it accidentally and have to re-enter my password to continue working.

I looked at System Settings/Keyboard but don't see any way to disable or
remap this key. There seem to be some third party keyboard mapping apps
but I'm not sure how safe of good they are.

    Suggestions?

    Hmmm?
No. I think there is no chance AT ALL that you did that.

    Here's why.

    The first hit is this:

'Disable the Lock Key on a Magic Keyboard (or any other key)

Since this cannot be natively done in Mac OS, you can use an app like Karabiner Elements to do it easily. And it's free, unlike many other
keyboard controlling apps. Install Karabiner and add the following rule:
Lock key on Magic keyboard --> vk_none. DONE!'

    Try (in Terminal):

    sysadminctl -screenLock off -password -

(The last dash is to prompt for your password).

This *should* work - but does not on Sequoia.

Can't seem to find away around this in settings - on my keyboard that
key is also the fingerprint reader - so touching it is good for login or Passwords related things and so on.

It also has a stiffer resistance and sharper break compared to other
keys so less likely to accidentally press it.

No idea about 3rd party apps for this.
