• macOS Sonoma 14.4 Breaks iMazing

    From Chris Schram@chrispam1@me.com to comp.sys.mac.system on Fri Mar 8 09:21:17 2024
    From Newsgroup: comp.sys.mac.system

I updated to macOS Sonoma 14.4 on my M1 iMac, and iMazing.app now hangs
with the beachball of despair when I click the "Manage Apps" button,
requiring me to Force Quit the Application. This problem exists in both iMazing 2.17.17 and Beta version 3.0.0. I have submitted a report to
    iMazing Support.

Can anyone out there either validate or debunk whether iMazing works on
your Mac under the latest version of Sonoma?

    Thanks for the datapoint JR.

iMazing Support responded with clear iMazing's cache; reinstall iMazing. I added restart iMac to the mix. Performed several times; no joy.

I'm going to try a full macOS reinstall, but to acquire the full installer
I need to go to an offsite location where the WiFi flows like sweet wine.

If worst comes to worst I can trash all traces of iMazing, and start from scratch. I really do not want to do that quite yet.

    Software NOT approved by Apple.

No, software that simply isn't published on the App Store - big
    difference.

How do YOU know that it doesn't contain malware?

Because I'm not a noob like you. I'm a software developer. I monitor
what apps do on my computer, and through my network. iMazing isn't
malware and doesn't communicate with server except for software updates
    - and I prevent those connections until I'm ready to update.

I did not mention it before, but I had a suspicion that I had gotten a
"dirty" download of the latest Sonoma update. A full macOS re-install made iMazing behave again. Strange that I never noticed any other apps
    misbehaving.

Some more details, if anyone cares: I generally do System updates in a two-step process using the "softwareupdate" command in Terminal: 1)
download; 2) install/restart. I do it that way because it seems a little
more reliable on my early 1950s copper wire DSL connection. This last time
I was fighting for bandwidth with something else. Even though the macOS download said it completed without error, that must not have been true. It even installed without complaint. In the future I must be more careful.

Neither of those are iMazing, silly.

EACH of them *IS* iMazing ........ AND approved by Apple.

    What have YOU downloaded?

Neither of those is the iMazing app...

...that isn't made available through the app store at all...

    Look here:- https://www.facebook.com/DigiDNA

    Why?

Will it magically transform two pieces of software into another piece of
    software...

    ...idiot?

Are you suggesting that there are TWO items of software with the same name?

There are obviously at least THREE applications with the same text as a
    PART of their names, doofus.

"iMazing Profile Editor" is one app on the App Store

"iMazing Convertor" is another one from there.

"iMazing" (nothing more) is an app not available on the App Store.

The link on the Facebook page goes to iMazing.com

    So?

They are three different applications that are old developed by the same company.

But the one under discussion isn't available on the App Store.

That's your response? Pointing to the Facebook page of the developer who created two apps that try to piggyback on the iMazing name but don't do anything that iMazing actually does? 🤣 You're a fucking clueless troll.

To be fair, all three apps are from the same company.

I suspect that their main app, iMazing, falls afoul of some App Store rule.

Our David’s reputation precedes him. One of his problems is that _lots_ of devs have presences in places like the various Apple fora and certain of the non-Apple Mac or iDevice fora. They will have seen Our David in action. They will know other devs and will get warnings from them about Our David’s drunken, brain-damaged, obnoxious, methods. And they will react accordingly.

As yea sow, so shall yea reap, David, m’lad.
