I have some really old HDDs that are incredibly reliable from more than 15 years ago. HDTune and other applications say they are in perfect health.

In contrast, my NVMe and SSD or hybrid HDD drives seem to be less reliable.

Based on my rough calculations, at the current rate of limited writing on my NVMe drive, I will need to have it replaced in about 3 to 4 years.

As I'm a senior, I'm on a fixed income and I don't like the idea of having to buy a new laptop in 4 years because it's likely the NVMe drive in 2240 format will be difficult if not impossible to find. It'll be very expensive, too if I find one not used.

Me too, but am currently seeing the main 2TB drive in the process of
dying with 25 pending sectors. It runs full time and is never turned off.

I use the Everest SMART report.

I have only just added one in a new laptop. m

Mine is soldered onto the motherboard.

I am in the fortunate situation where I will never spend my accumulated
wealth and so am free to buy anything I fancy, even a new car.

    Congrats sir.

Nowadays, you need to typically wait months for a new vehicle and will have to pay MSRP or higher given the trend.
