[I could have sworn I posted a link to this before, but
searching through the archives, I couldn't find mention
of it. Maybe it was on some other forum. But apologies
if this is old news to some of you]
Anyway, there's a series of YouTube videos (link below*, as usual)that
are going into extensive detail about each of the Ultima games. The
producer recently released his latest video (this one detailing
"Serpent Isle"), which is why the series came to mind again. Each
video is well researched and the producer has a very obvious love of
the franchise. In some case even I learned something new about the
games! I don't always agree with their conclusions, but I enjoy
reminiscing about the games and the era in which those games were
developed. He goes into detail not only what the games were, but about
the how and why they were developed.
A warning, though: the videos are _long_. Like, the shortest video is
a 'mere' 52 minutes; the latest 'Serpent Isle' video is over 200
minutes long! Undeniably, the guy could use an editor to tighten up
his diatribes** but, at the same time, I found the videos entertaining
enough to keep watching to the end.
Arguably, the Spoony Ultima Retrospective videos*** are more fun to
watch (and they won't steal a whole day's worth of your time!) but
it's nice to have a detailed and definitive history of this classic
series.
