    Gold Box Companion works well if you run Pool in a window.

    Well, there is Gold Box Companion (http://gbc.zorbus.net/), which adds auto-mapping, hud, character editing, and a variety of quality-of-life features. It doesn't improve the graphics or change the gameplay.

    Alternately, while they are not the for Goldbox version, there are
    several "Pool of Radiance" modules for Neverwinter Nights (https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/pool-radiance-0 is
    one;
    https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/pool-radiance-remastered
    is another) which do a pretty good job at re-creating the experience
    of the original game, albeit within the gameplay framework of NWN.
