• Gold Box to Steam

A bunch of the "gold box" D&D games going to Stream (most are already on GOG). Unfortunatly all they've done is fix the DOS box to run on current Windows. I've tried replaying them on GOG and find the experience unpleasant.

I always take the files after installing the GOG version and put them
in my own Dosbox setup so the games run with my own Dosbox.conf
    settings.

Also, google the gold box companion if you are not aware of it. It
makes the games more playable by adding an automap.

The Steam versions are a bit more than just "take game, add DOSBox,
stir"; they're also to feature a launcher which gives quick access to
boxart and manuals, and third-party support apps such as Gold Box
Companion which adds mapping and editing support to the game. This
makes a more user-friendly experience that will likely make the game
more palatable to modern users .These apps have been freely available
for years and can be added to the GOG versions, but that has to be
done by the user after the fact; with the Steam version, it's included
right out of the (gold) box.

Still, given that these games have been available on GOG for over a
decade, I fail to see the excitement about their arrival on Steam. If
you cared about the Goldbox games, you probably bought them on GOG
    already.

I bought one and couldn't make the controls work for me. I also didn't know about the assitantace programs. I the launcher is user friendly in making the game work I may give it a try.
