    You do need the xbox app installed, but it's not clear to me you need a subscription...

    Aside from everything else (needing the XBox app and an account with
    XBox.com), I just don't like how this 'remastered' version looks. The
    original 1989 game definitely isn't a looker, but I still think it
    looks better than this 2020 remake. The visuals in this game look
    charmless, like a bad mobile port. Meanwhile, its gameplay still has
    almost all the jankiness of its 3-decade old progenitor.

    Still, it was mostly the need to create a microsoft account that kept
    me from getting this one. Even the insistence of the holy Number can't
    overcome that travail.
