I hate freebies I can't claim because I already have the games :-/

I never really got into the "Alone in the Dark" games. It was mostly
the controls; they were so slow and clumsy and that --combined with
the action-sequences-- made the game a trial. I wasn't a fan of the
fixed camera angles either. And for all that the polygonal character
models were impressive for their era (and, weird as they may look to
modern eyes, they really were impressive back then!), still even in
1992 we still giggled at how silly they were. Throw into that some
uneven puzzling and poor storytelling, and well... it often wasn't
worth the effort to play the games.

Even today, the best I can say about the original "Alone in the Dark"
trilogy is that they set the stage for better games that used its
formula: "Resident Evil" being the most obvious. Infograms came up
with the idea, but Capcom was the one who made it work.

Nowadays, the original AITD trilogy is mostly of interest to gaming
historians. People actually interested in good gameplay should look
    elsewhere.

(But grab the games anyway, if you don't have them. They add some
class to your video-game library and make The Number larger. ;-)

Thanks for the heads up, rms!

I never really got into the "Alone in the Dark" games.

I do want to play the most recent remake, which I believe has gotten
    fairly positive reviews

Same here. We have been through this with GOG or some other place in
    the past.

It certainly was better received than previous entries. "Alone in the
Dark: Illumination" was a half-assed co-op shooter that completely
missed the point of the franchise, and the 2008 game --while it had
some innovative tech and ideas-- was a chore to play through. (The
    2001 game wasn't terrible, but it was /at best/ a very average
experience). And, like I said, the original trilogy was a very mixed
    bag.

So the 2025 game doesn't have a very high bar to clear. ;-)

It's one of those games I've added to my library and intend to play...
    one of these days.

GOG's backend has always been problematic. They offer these freebies,
people rush to claim them, and their servers just can't keep up. In
fairness, the claims usually are honored... but it sometimes can take
anywhere from an hour to several days before the games show up in your
    library.

I love the company... but it sometimes feels like they could hire
    better people. ;-)
