    ('cause it's using 20yr-old engine) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3506110/Lunacid__Tears_of_the_Moon/
The main Lunacid game appears more modern, with many positive reviews: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1745510/Lunacid/

I was going to pass this one by until I saw it's based on the old
"Kings Field" games. For those who don't know (and I'd bet that's most
gamers), the "King's Field" games were sort of prototype "Dark Souls"
games, made by From Software for the PS1 before they hit it big
with... well, with "Dark Souls". Honestly, the games weren't very good
(and other than historical curiosities, they aren't worth seeking out
to play, even by the hardest of die-hard Souls fans) but you can see
some of the ideas that would later get developed in their Souls games.

Apparently, in 2000 From Software also released the engine (and the
entirety of the first "King's Field" game, /and/ a license to use the
Kings Field IP in any games made with it) as a "3D first person RPG
maker". It went for roughly $75 USD (taking into account conversion
rates from Yen and inflation) so it was obviously targeted at
end-users rather than other studios. "Lunacid Tears of the Moon" is
just one in a long line of fan-games made using that tool.

So I grabbed the freebie. Is it good, or awful? I couldn't even tell
you if it has anything to do with the "King's Field" games or if it's
just using the engine. I don't know and I don't really care. I'm
pretty sure I'll never play it, but that's okay. I've no real interest
in it as a /game/, but I love the history surrounding it, and that's
enough to make me click 'add to library'.

Thanks for the heads up, rms.
