I'm looking for a Win16 text editor for editing source code. In fact, I'm looking for any fun and useful application for 16-bit Windows. Where can I find them?

They don't have Google in Trollville, Harry? I searched for "Win16 text
editor" and got hits on the first page.

He didn't even consider Notepad as a Win16 text editor.

Or WordPad or DOS's edit / edlin.

I was looking for another text editor.

I am familiar with EDIT and Wordpad, but EDIT is DOS-based and doesn't handle tabs properly, and Wordpad is for Win32/64. Also, Notepad for Win16 doesn't handle large files (i.e. >=64k). :(

That's a key piece of information.

Without specifying that you're looking for another / additional /
different editor is less helpful to those whom are trying to help you.

I am familiar with EDIT and Wordpad, but EDIT is DOS-based and
    doesn't handle tabs properly,

    What's wrong with DOS-based?

What does DOS's edit not do with tabs that you want it to do?

Wordpad is for Win32/64. Also, Notepad for Win16 doesn't handle
    large files (i.e. >=64k). :(

These are all additional details that help people give you a better answer.

With that criteria, I'd look for (what I think was called) Programmers
File Editor (PFE) or an old version of NoteTab Pro. I think it had
    Windows 3.x versions.

Use Write. Load any text file without any conversion. If saving as a new
file, always save it as text file (i.e. *.txt).

    Thank you.

Nothing. I just really want to do some work on Win16.

What does DOS's edit not do with tabs that you want it to do?

It expands tabs to spaces without the option to preserve the tabs. :(

If you run "write" in later windows it runs wordpad.

Seems to be Metapad under the hood (Help About)

"Notespad" might be another option. http://can2can.biz/NotesPad/notespad_16.html

Beware that Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 have a virtual memory paging bug
on CPUs above a 486. It was fixed in Windows 98. Opening and closing
many DOS windows may reveal the bug. The only work around is to disable
the swap file and run without virtual memory. Not a bad idea when you
    have plenty of memory.

The KB article may be gone from the Microsoft web site, I can't find it
    now.
