• Age Verification Parents Decide Act

For the whole of the USA:

"1(1) Require any user of the operating system to
2provide the date of birth of the user in order to—
3(A) set up an account on the operating
    4
    system; and
    5
    (B) use the operating system."

I don't know how far they would go with this, but what if Google says
you can no longer use your email account without age verification?

If your account is older than the age required, that should be
an age verification. Maybe even some years can be added because
people do not open accounts during the first years of their lives.

The inhabitants of the again great America still have the illusion that
they are free. This is Nazi-style. Even the idea is pervers.

In the case of the EU it is not decided yet. Just a possible technical framework is offered.

Well, according to this silly bill, it only matters if you use *that*
Google account as the account for (the operating system of) your
    device(s).

Luckily the EU has a bit more of a clue: It's proposed age
verification system has nothing to do with your devices or their OSs.

I know that was tongue-in-cheek, but they kind of do ... when I
purchased my first android device (Nexus One) I setup a new google
account just for it, and kept an older account for use on PCs.

But it didn't take long for them to start offering the phone's account
to login to other google websites (I always assumed they matched via the shared public IP addresses of my home wired/wifi network). It would be slightly different if multiple people lived here.

Well, they insist on having a phone number for verification. So the
accounts that are not installed on a phone are also associated to a
phone, which is the same number as the smartphone. Surely they see the
same number listed in a number of accounts.

I think they want a smartphone, not a landline. Not SMS capable, usually.

Now they do, but not 15+ years ago.

Not even three years ago (last time October 22, 2023, user SantaClaus<4-digit_number>@gmail.com).

There probably still is a way to skip giving a phone number, but I
can't be bothered to try again.

Right, but if you keep using the email they do insist.
