• Concern ? THREE Kernel Updates in TWO Weeks

    From c186282@c186282@nnada.net to comp.os.linux.misc on Mon Feb 2 22:59:56 2026

    MX Linux

Had to do 'full-update' to install three kernel
updates in just the past two weeks.

    This SEEMS excessive.

Is there some nasty security problem with DebiVerse
    kernels of late ?

Which kernel? Both the Arch and Fedora boxes have been at 6.18.7 for a
while. 6.19 is still a rc.

Many LTS Linux releases backport kernel updates, esp. important security patches. Sometimes multiple such updates show up in "quick" succesion. Not often. They stay at a given base kernel resease for the duration of the LTS release, but will update that kernel with backported upstream patches and will add their own additional versioning when adding backported patches.

    Yesterdays is "6.18.8-1-liquorix-amd64"

    Previous were 6.18.6-2 and 6.18.6-1

Usually kernel version updates are infrequent, but
    the past couple weeks ....

Yeah, Fedora had been hanging at 6.17. I got 6.18.3 on 1/8 with other
updates following. A lot of KDE stuff too.

I'm wondering if some serious, broad, security prob
had been discovered - necessitating a lot of rapid
    tweaks/updates.

Why would MX Linux, a distribution that praises itself for being
stable and frugal, use bleeding edge kernels?!? Don't they have more
    important things to do?

Well, this is part of My Concern ... this behavior
suggests some MAJOR security problem that they and
others are patching as fast as possible without
    raising a General Alarm.

IS there a major problem ? Where would I search to
find very current uncensored info/news ?

Debian stable and oldstable last had kernel updates on Dec 30. So looks
like no cause for panic. Just mentioning this because you mentioned "Debiverse". As for MX, I dunno. Does apt changelog work there?
