  • [Python-announce] python-oracledb 1.0.0

    From Anthony Tuininga@anthony.tuininga@gmail.com to comp.lang.python.announce on Wed May 25 15:05:34 2022
    From Newsgroup: comp.lang.python.announce

    What is python-oracledb?

python-oracledb is a Python extension module that enables access to Oracle Database for Python and conforms to the Python database API 2.0
specifications with a number of enhancements. This release is intended as a
new major version of cx_Oracle (and to eventually replace it).

    Where do I get it?

    https://pypi.org/project/oracledb/1.0.0/

The easiest method to install/upgrade python-oracledb is via pip as in

python -m pip install oracledb --upgrade

    What's new?

The biggest enhancement is the introduction of a "thin" mode that does not require any Oracle Client libraries! Prebuilt binaries for macOS are now included (and Windows and Linux binaries are also available).

See the full release notes for all of the details: https://python-oracledb.readthedocs.io/en/latest/release_notes.html#releasenotes

Chris Jones also has a blog that provides more details: https://cjones-oracle.medium.com/open-source-python-thin-driver-for-oracle-database-e82aac7ecf5a
