How to Reset the Waste Ink Absorber on a Canon PIXMA iP4800 Printer
If you own a Canon PIXMA iP4800 printer, you may encounter an error message that says "Ink absorber full" or "Ink absorber almost full". This means that the waste ink absorber, which is a sponge-like pad that collects excess ink during printing and cleaning, has reached its capacity and needs to be replaced or reset. In this article, we will show you how to reset the waste ink absorber on your Canon PIXMA iP4800 printer using a service tool software.

How to Reset the Waste Ink Absorber
Turn off your printer and disconnect the power and USB cables.
Open the cover of your printer and hold down the Resume button (triangle inside a circle).
While holding down the Resume button, reconnect the power cable and press the Power button. The green LED light should come on.
Keep holding down the Power button and release the Resume button. Then press the Resume button twice. The LED light should turn amber and then green again.
Release both buttons. Your printer is now in Service Mode and ready for operation.
Download and extract the service tool software from the link below or from another source. If the service tool does not open, unplug the USB cable and then open it. Reconnect the USB cable after opening it.
Select your printer model from the drop-down menu at the top of the service tool window.
Click on EEPROM (1) to print the EEPROM information for reference. This will show you the current status of your waste ink absorber.
Click on MAIN (2) to clear the ink counter and reset the main waste ink absorber counter. Wait for the process to complete.
Select your region from the drop-down menu at SET DESTINATION (4) and click on SET. This will set your destination code according to your location.
Click on EEPROM again to print the EEPROM information after resetting. Compare the values of D (Waste ink amount) before and after resetting. They should be different.
Close the service tool software and turn off your printer. Wait for 10 seconds and then turn it on again.
Your printer should be ready to use without any error messages. However, keep in mind that resetting the waste ink absorber does not clean or replace it. You may need to replace it eventually if it gets too full or leaks ink.
