Ah, good news. aIf you have internet, I think that is more important
    than TV.

Use your internet to get free furniture. aYou can put a free ad on
Craigslist and explain your situation. aThere are people who will be
    happy to help.
Do you want to hear a case of cosmic irony? To place an ad on
craigslist, on needs a telephone... To place an ad for stuff like a
mirowave, a tv set, or even a telephone, one needs-- you got it!-- a
frelling telephone! Gee, the Powers That Be are just using us as a
football andjust kicking the shit out of us at every turn. Sigh...

Oh, really? Because there is no need for people who respond to call
you. You can do it all through email.

I never had craigslist call to verify my phone. Try putting your old
one, or the # of some local pizza place.

It seems craig's uses the phone to send a special verification code.
Why they don't just do it like everyone else is a mystery to me. But
this isn't the most bizarre thing I have seen: I made a special entry
for the Wikipedia a while back (look up Cassandra and check out
Cassandra syndrome) and they wouldn't allow it until I could put a
source for it. Strangely enough, they allowed my own reference source
as a reference source. Go figure. :-)

Aww. You can always join a local #Occupy group. They offer food,
    blankets, even medical care.

I learned one thing this week: people matter more than anything else.

I was reminded of that scene where Kirk grabs Lt. Palamas' hand in Who
Mourns For Adonais? where he reminds her, with his hand in hers, that
her first and most important loyalty is to her fellow human beings.

Thank you; there are too few kind people in the world. Most are only
    out for themselves.
But with a little luck (said Ripley...) we might be able to get into
an apartment today or tomorrow though it may take every last nickel we
got; but even being dirt poor for a month is better than living out
of our suitcases much longer.. Probably no more free internet access,
but if we can get a TV or a microwave we'd consider ourselves lucky.
