We got the flat but there's no furniture, no microwave, and (gasp!),
no TV. I'm a little stunned that this place has a bit of internet
access that I can use
Ah, good news. aIf you have internet, I think that is more important
than TV.
Use your internet to get free furniture. aYou can put a free ad on
Craigslist and explain your situation. aThere are people who will be
happy to help.
Do you want to hear a case of cosmic irony? To place an ad on
craigslist, on needs a telephone...

Oh, really? aBecause there is no need for people who respond to call
you. aYou can do it all through email.
I never had craigslist call to verify my phone. aTry putting your old
one, or the # of some local pizza place.

Try being on disbabily, ahaving an 83 year-old diabetic mother, and
losing your home with no place to go and no help at all from all those state agencies that are supposed to help people but do shit. I now
have a lot more sympathy for Kahn, who through his wits alone kept his people alive-- most of them anyway.
My doctor told me to "hang in there," and I really wanted to slap
her.
Wow, you have my sympathy. aNow that my heat is back on, you can come
here to warm up. aI have sofas for sleeping, hope that is OK.

LOL. Considering some of the places where I've slept the last two
months, a sofa would be a definite improvement. Many thanks, though,
but my transporter is down and we seem to be stuck in the NW for the duration. Still, there's light at the end of the tunnel-- oh, wait;
that's another oncoming train... Oy.
Ron, seriously, if you could get here with your mother I would seriouslyThank you; there are too few kind people in the world. Most are only
make space for you both. aTrekkies gotta help Trekkies. aI honestly
believe that.

Thank you; there are too few kind people in the world. Most are only
out for themselves.
But with a little luck (said Ripley...) we might be able to get into
an apartment today or tomorrow though it may take every last nickel we
got; abut even being dirt poor for a month is better than living out
of our suitcases much longer.. aProbably no more free internet access,
but if we can get a TV or a microwave we'd consider ourselves lucky.
