Hello,

Had recently to pack/renumber my message base because of a corrupted JAM
area.

After doing this, I can’t see any new messages for that particular area at JAMNNTPD...

You need to re-read the index of messages. I don't know how to do it in your news client. Perhaps unsubscribe/subscribe the newsgroup helps.

you have to unsubscribe the area and then rejoin it to reset your news reader's
pointers for that area...

that's the big difference between BBSes' message areas and news servers' message areas... on BBSes, the message pointers are kept on the BBS... on news servers, the message pointers are the responsibility of the users' news readers...

Got your point. I had even set up to run it as part of the weekly maintenance, but will belay that at least for now.

my system(s) always purge and pack the message areas... they should not renumber but at least one tosser i have at hand does automatically renumber and
there's nothing that can be done about it other than changing tossers but that isn't going to happen on that system any time soon...
