Defenceman Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins will be added to the roster of the U.S. men's national team that is competing at the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.

McAvoy will be playing at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with the men's
team for the second consecutive year and representing Team USA for the fifth time in an IIHF championship.

He most recently was a member of the team that competed in the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Cologne, Germany, and Paris, France. McAvoy served
as an alternate captain for the gold medal-winning U.S. national junior team at
the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, where he was named to the Media All-Star Team. He also won gold with the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland, before earning a bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland.

McAvoy just finished his first full season as a member of the NHL's Boston Bruins. In 63 games, he registered 32 points (7+25) and went on to add five points (1+4) in 12 playoff games. Before joining Boston in the 2016 Stanley Cup
Playoffs, where he contributed three assists in six games, he played two seasons (2015-17) with Boston University. McAvoy registered 51 points (8-43) in
75 games at BU while earning Hockey East All-Rookie Team honours in 2015/16 and
Hockey East First-Team All-Star and NCAA All-America honours in 2016/17.

After registering McAvoy, the Team USA roster at the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World
Championship will include 13 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders.
