  • Node Manager->Packet pwd: UPPERCASE only?

    Hello everybody!

    I noticed that the packet password I enter in the node manager is taken in uppercase only, regardless of what I do or don't do with my <Shift> key. Am I overlooking something, or is this by design/fido-standard?

    It's intentionally done this way by the original author of FMail. So I suspect it's a (kind of) fidonet standard.

    FTS-0001 However doesn't specify anything about the content of the password field. But in http://ftsc.org/docs/fsc-0039.001 we read:

    Type-2 Packet Format (proposed, but currently in use) -----------------------------------------------------
    Field Ofs Siz Type Description Expected value(s)
    ------- --- --- ---- -------------------------- -----------------

    Well not completely. A FSC document is not a standard. It's in the reference library. So I'm not sure what weight you should give this information. But as far as I know using uppercase characters for the pkt password is general practice.

    But I could be wrong, because all my pkt passwords are uppercase because of the FMail requirement, and not the other way arround. ;)

    If you or Fermin want to be more sure, you could ask in FTSC_PUBLIC.
