And, as things turned out, she wasn't able to do the camping at all,
since she fell and broke her hip and had to stay home... At least we
were able to bring her home to do her rehab, which she is still in the
process of doing, and once again progress continues, but slowly. :)
Now we have a year or so to figure out next year's camping... well, not
really, since if we go to the same area again, reservations are best
    made in January... ;)

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear about that bogus development. Stick with
that rehab like flypaper. It's a pain in the butt, and it really
starts getting old after awhile, but it's one of the ways that the body does best to repair from those sorts of injuries. Wouldn't have traded the repairs that therapy have done for my body for anything.

We're working on her to realize that.. ;) At 85, she can get a bit stubborn... but I've been feeding back to her some of her earlier advice
to us... ;) Plus, I've had the experience of having to have therapy to
heal from a broken ankle to utilize, so she can't say I don't
    understand... <G>

I really hope that things start going better on that front. By all means, start planning for the future now, too. :) Time is too short
    to waste.

    Exactly. :)

job of getting the stories out that the mass media are ignoring, or
at least doing their best to be distracted from. Some of that
    stuff I really value.
As long as you actually are getting the real story...
Well that's the really hit or miss part. I try to stick to the
firsthand accounts that are caught on video so that I'm not getting pulled into the fray all half cocked or anything. Still, you've always got to be on the lookout for the spin that each particular person feels like putting on their version of the story, unfortunately.

Kinda what I was getting at... even the firsthand can be spun, and/or
    edited...

Ah... I can appreciate that... ;) More of a vicarious pleasure... ;)
Well it's not just in areas like fidonet that I find that I really
do well with the cantankerous a-holes. It seems like when I'm in a
group of people I usually do well settling in with those people, and before too long the complaining and ranting turns into laughter. I
think I've got a gift for keeping those kinds of people amused. Maybe not so much via text, which can make things a little more annoying when watching things at times... But in person I really bond with those cantankerous dudes well, befriend them more often than not, and end up having a blast poking fun of whatever concepts were really stuck in
their craw in the first place.

In person, one can take advantage of body language and tone of voice and such... which get lost usually in text... unless you know the person
very well... :) I also can usually defuse situations, particularly in person.. :)

Just don't ask me where I learned these
qualities. ;) I'll say the Army, but the truth is that I had some [enforced] social experiences before that where I didn't have much of
a choice but to sink or swim in those environments, too. Such an
amazing and colorful life that I've had!

It all feeds in to what makes you who you are... :)

Besides, true impressions aren't made by memes or pictures, but by
real IRL human interaction, which I'm still struggling my best to
    find more venues for. Pretty soon I'm gonna end up hitting a club;
I know it. I'll only drink seltzer water, but it's gonna happen.
My social life has been way too bereft for way too long now.

Hopefully a place you can take the kid to... ;)

No worries. I've been a little bit slow with things, too. Had a
little bit of real life kicking in and then when I have been here I've been trying to make sure that I'm spending less of my time (at least
when I'm not working) on the computer and a little more time trying to make up for my son's lack of stimulation this summer. YAY FOR SUMMER SCHOOL! Next Monday. I can't wait, although the drama that I'm going
to get from my son is going to be of epic and somewhat painful proportions. ;) That's okay, though; he needs the social interaction
a hell of a lot more than he needs more time watching youtube and
    playing video games.

Who knows... he might actually end up enjoying the stimulation of summer school, too.. :) And he'll get over the drama... especially if you
aren't reacting to it the way he wants... ;)

It's good that you've got that... Recovery from injuries like that is no joke... I hope she tones it down a little bit. :) I know all about the stubbornness that can creep in, though. I've had a couple of adoptive relatives make it just to or over 100 and yeah, they kind of embodied those sorts of qualities. Heh. At least one was a really good person, though. ;)

Kinda what I was getting at... even the firsthand can be spun, and/or edited...

It's good to talk with other people that understand that. I've got some friends that I just can't take news links or anything else of the sort from anymore because they don't have a critical filter or something.

In person, one can take advantage of body language and tone of voice and such... which get lost usually in text... unless you know the person
very well... :) I also can usually defuse situations, particularly in person.. :)

Yeah the body language is what makes that possible, definitely. A lot of those crotchety people don't want to be unhappy and complaining, they just want
someone to listen to them, and then maybe even some laughing about it. :) I've been good at defusing situations, too; that came in really handy when I was an MP with the army. More often than not, though, I guess because I'm a dangler and not a tiny guy, I've been used as someone to enforce things a little more often. Like evictions and stuff like that, nothing horrifying and not physically violent. Nothing like that in my past, thank YHVH.

It all feeds in to what makes you who you are... :)

So many things do... ;) It's fun learning those things about people.

I know it. I'll only drink seltzer water, but it's gonna happen.

Not sure if you were joking or not, but I'm actually planning this particular
kind of outing more for myself than a family thing. ;) I dunno, I actually kind of miss the club atmosphere, though I'm sure that'll disappate within a few short minutes of being there. Unless, of course, I'm rapidly approached by
female suitors or something. We'll see where it goes. heh. We did make it out to a UU church congregation today, though. Two out of three weeks now. Things are slowly getting better both for him and I. Keep your fingers crossed
for getting to Aikido finally tomorrow.

Who knows... he might actually end up enjoying the stimulation of summer school, too.. :) And he'll get over the drama... especially if you aren't reacting to it the way he wants... ;)

I think he did, actually. It's just a shame that I couldn't get him into it sooner this time around. Now that I know that all of that is budget adjusted as well I won't make the mistake unless he's got a huge cluster of friends to hang out with by next summer. :)
More later, the queue isn't empty yet!
