I seem to recall seeing something in the news about a pair of earthquakes
    in New Zealand.

There's been no news of damage to him and I hope things remain that way.

    Thanks Doc.

I blame that fat kid in North Korea... the world ain't meant to be
havin' these nukealear bombs exploded in it...Shucks! it jest ain't
    natchural!

There was a fairly strong quake near Wellington (the capital, where I
was born...). As the city is built on a fault line, I sp'ose it is to be expected. I remember as a kid we had quite a few and it was kind of
exciting watching the blood drain from the teacher's face as she tried
to keep calm while things were falling down and over... They taught us
to get under our desks or stand in an archway, but it probably isn't
much more effective than the old "Duck and Cover" in event of nuclear
attack. The most serious earthquake I have ever experienced personally
    was in Los Angeles...

The two you referred to did not cause major damage and I'm not aware of
    any fatalities.

We do live on the Pacific rim and it is an earthquake zone. Apparently,
here in the Bay of Plenty (about 300 miles from Wellington), we get
several earthquakes every week but it is only about once every couple of
years that you might feel one. There was one a few years back which
cracked my concrete drive, but that is exceptional.

    Thanks for your thoughts...

    Pete.
