• Howling at night...

From Janis Kracht@1:2320/100 to All on Thu Jan 26 15:33:12 2017
I really love sleep Lol.. unfortunately Lola has lately decided I don't need any hahahaha... she spent the better part of the wee hours of the morning howling and meowing starting at about 3AM... I've read "don't scold your cat for doing this" but you know at that hour, that's NOT what I am thinking..

I've also read it is a good idea to play with "howlers" at night before you go to sleep, it's supposed to help.. not here so far :(

Anybody else here dealing with this kind of thing?

    Take care,
    Janis

Felix likes to go crazy at about 3 AM when I get home.

I've read that you're supposed to "tire a cat out" but with them sleeping 16 hours a day I think that's up there with trying to catch a snipe. :)

Maybe give her some catnip to mellow her out? I don't know how she'd react
to it. Felix just chills out (he eats it) and sleeps.

Hey, that is a good idea... I think... I know one of my cats used to eat it as well... I'm not sure it was Lola though, it could have been the other one, Lulu Lol... guess I'll have to test it during the day and see if she goes haywire or sleeps haha

Thanks for thinking of this, I'd forgotten I have a pile of it... I was saving it to make toys for the maniac (Lola) :)

    Take care,
    Janis

The cat here starts meowing about 4:30-5:00 in the morning. She usually gets told to "shut the hell up". <g> She doesn't seem to care. Although she stops as soon as she gets someone to get up.

One of ours "Monday" who is a senior, likes to bang on the bedroom door 10 minutes after we turn off the TV and lights. She will repeat it every 2-3
hours until my wife gets out of bed and gives her a snack. Spoiled rotten kitty!

She is going on 17 and her kidneys are failing and recently became blind. The vet suggested putting her to sleep, but since she is not in pain we decided to let her live as long as possible.

haha.. sounds like our two felines.. I guess really if you want to get any sleep at all, you have to do that (at least it seems that way to me <g>).

Aw that's sad. It's hard when your pets start getting older. These two we have

now are still essentially 'youngters'... maybe 5 or 6 years old if that. We have had some live through some rough times that sound like your kitty. The saddest one to go was one I'd found as a kitten on our front porch one year when the kids were small. My daughter used to put that kitten in her doll-stroller and MADE the cat enjoy it Lol. He eventually died of what the vet thought was feline aids. Really sad.

    Take care,
    Janis

How about just leaving the door open? My cat doesn't tolerate any closed doors at all. He will know no rest until it's opened :)

Hi Alexander, the door is open.. Before that she banged one of our dresser drawers that made a big noise. Put a piece of foam padding on it that stopped her, then she discovered the bedroom door. Sigh..

Be glad you don't have a Siamese they are loud +10

I've found that when they do the "howl" mine usually have a toy mouse or something. My GF said they are "hunting" and caught something and want to announce to you that they are bringing you their prize. I usually go pick up the toy praise the kitty put them on the bed with me and they usually (operative word is usually) are quiet the rest of the night.

Now the day that it was freezing cold and somehow a mouse got in here I reached down to pick up her prize and it was warm, squishy and wet. That night I don't think any of us slept very well.
