• Amiga Echo Reboot Project

    Hi Joacim,

In a message dated 07 Jun 16 you wrote to Allen Prunty :

    1. Do we need a moderator?

    Currently I don|t think so.
The last moderator in this area I knew of was Asha Develder.

    2. If (1)=yes, why? Are there any Fidonet rules stipulating that every echo requires a moderator?

No, you can go without a moderator if you like. However, when there|s lot
of traffic and discussion goes heavily off-topic, a moderator can help to
bring the discussion back in line of the general topic.

So, maybe we don`t need a moderator, but on the other hand, it could help
to already have one and don|t start the process of electing a moderator
    when problem is already here.

I run my BBS on a Amiga 2000 and it's still reasonably stable, offering
me tons of joy and entertainment and (sometimes) a bit of a headache. Surely, we can come together as users (or just fans) of the Amiga and
keep the discussion civilized? I'd rather not see this echo turn to FN_SYSOP...

I joined Fidonet again after 17 years of inactivity. The reason why I was forced to shutdown my box was the y2k bug in GMS-Mailer on 2000-1-1 and me being far away, not being able to investigate (and switch over to TrapDoor) locally.

However, although all my Amigas are still running fine, and AmiBinkD most
of its time is performing well with some glitches, I decided to better run
my new node on my colocated server, mostly for reasons of reducing my electricity bill.

Currently, my A3000 is giving me headache, because I don|t know why neither
the internal nor the external bus is working. Termination should be fine,
diode D800 delivers +5V on pin 25 of external SCSI connector as well...
However the SCSI bus of the WarpEngine is working...

Welcome back! I'm an Atari guy myself (running the last lonely Atari ST
BBS on Fidonet). I came back after a 13-14 year break myself.

It's good to see the old systems coming back on vintage hardware!

I hope you get the SCSI working.

(On a side note, do you have Hack & Slash running on your BBS? I've been looking for that one... thinking of doing an Atari port).

I did have Hack'n Slash on my BBS back in the days. Now that I have brought the

BBS back to life (on an Amiga emulator) it doesn't seem to be working at the moment but I'm sure that's fixable.

Well, in some regards the Ataris do have some advantages, when I consider
CT60 hardware. However, apollo-accelerators.com is nice stuff for Amigas as well... :)

It's good to see the old systems coming back on vintage hardware!

Well, I do intend to run the full node on Linux, because of stability and up-to-date software - and for the sake of my electricity bill. ;)

I hope you get the SCSI working.

I hope so too. But in the meantime I resurrected my old SGI Indy and use
that for what I wanted to use the external SCSI bus on my A3000: make an diskimage of all the old SCSI disks... :)

(On a side note, do you have Hack & Slash running on your BBS? I've

Currently I have no BBS and no doors running. I found my old BBS
installation on one of those old disks. So, when I have everything up and running again, maybe there|s Hack & Slash as well.

Alas... :( I hope you can get it running... I remember being quite
addicted to it back in the day.
