Does anyone here have a favorite version of MS Office?

Yes, whatever LibreOffice version I am currently using.

I didn't care much for Office after .docx was introduced myself.

Yes, whatever LibreOffice version I am currently using.

For Linux I kinda like AbiWord and for Mac I found one called Bean (bean-osx.com) that I hope gets better because it's a little buggy right now.

I don't remember what I'd use for Windows. It's been a while since I needed that.

Does anyone here have a favorite version of MS Office? Me personally, my favorite is Office 2003. I love the design, the simplicity and layout, and especially the little book and pen animation at the bottom.

    1) MS Office 2007
    2) I don't use windows, so nano on Linux.

Most definitely and never Office 365 or whatever the cloud-based spyware is called.

    Cheers!

I actually liked AbiWord when I used it, but it has been a while since I last ran it. If I needed a GUI word processor only instead of a full suite I would still use it.

ran it. If I needed a GUI word processor only instead of a full suite I woul still use it.

For a spreadsheet, Gnumeric was pretty nice, but not sure how well it works anymore. There might've been another one since then.

I still use it pretty regularly.

Yes, whatever LibreOffice version I am currently using.

I grabbed a license for the newest wordperfect a few years ago for $10. So I use that on my
laptop if I decide to boot windows, and on my desktop I just use some online one I have bookmarked.

I do have Libreoffice on the nix side of this laptop but I don't really need it. By the time I come home from work I don't want to see a wp or a spreadsheet again. LOL

For M$ office, I "like" whatever version my company installs because I have no choice but to use it.

at the bottom. However, using a older version of Word feels so
    much

for me it's the lack of the ribbon interface that keeps me using the old versions. they still desperately hold onto that stuff even into Windows
11.. and for just about every program i've ever used that offers various icon push buttons and other attempts at ease of use, i turn them off if i can.

Thats how I feel about Office, I have mixed feelings on the ribbon. The
2010's ribbon is okay, but the ribbon in W11 is awful.

i'm glad a lot of things are functionally complete. i have a Windows 7 machine i used to print goofy monthly calendars with clipart and stuff,
type documents, maybe burn DVDs or whatever.. nothing will break with a
new version because i'll never install a new version. but i don't need to because i can do everything i want.

That's really cool, that's what I've been up to myself lately. Just playing around with fun cool stuff, might as well!

Office XP was my favorite, aesthetically, but it wasn't until 2003 that
they added cached exchange mode to Outlook - which was a game changer.

Ooo, that's intresting. I have always wondered about email in the 2000's.

I actually liked super old Word for old old MacOS. Like System 6 or 7. There was no ribbon. I don't think there were any buttons at all. Then the next version they started having one row of buttons.

The one without buttons is nice :)

Hm, is it sad that I read/write email the same way today as I did in the 2000s? Mutt and vi. Although, I forget when it was that I switched from elm to mutt. Probably a little bit before that.

No, but muscle memory is key. On my tilde, I'm reading email and news using ALPINE and NANO, and it's like Eudora and gmail never happened.

Lots of on-premise Microsoft Exchange servers. 16GB data store limits
for your entire company unless you sprung for the enterprise edition.
Long periods of database maintenance on the weekends, and all running
on Windows Server 2000. Stable, as Windows server OSes went, but it was
    still a 23/6 operation.

Occasionally, you'd need to connect to an environment running Lotus
Notes for no reason except to justify having a team of people writing
customizations for Notes because someone decided to write some workflow
    in Notes.

The occasional WordPerfect Office environment, similarly customized and
    broken.

Then, lots of people running on Solaris and linux boxes, most likely
running UW IMAP or Courier IMAP, NNTP and LDAP. That combination worked
well, and you could make Outlook play nice with it for most things.

Or, just run Netscape Communicator, I don't think Thunderbird came out
    until later.

... A closed system lacks the ability to renew itself.

So for you, what's your favorite version of Office, and feel free to share your writing routine. Im curious! And if you don't use Office, feel free to share whatever it is you use! Im super curious about you guys.
I prefer older versions, but the other problem is the threat of macro viruses and other vectors which leads us to be slaves for the latest versions.

    Nook8081
As far as office goes, I view it as just another tool. I used to be infatuated with technology, but as I have gotten older I realize most of it should be viewed simply as a tool, not as an ultimate "good", and treated as such. I believe my mindshift happened when social media came around. I saw us move from connecting with people to connecting with everyone/anyone/no one all at once, it makes me sick. Now we have AI that is being used not as augmentation, but as a replacement for thinking. So, my sentiment level is low on tech in general. However, as to your request for writing routine, I write every day, early in the morning for a journal and throughout the day for my paycheck. As far as office goes, I like to write and edit my content, then use MS Word read aloud feature to a quality check to make sure my "voice" is correct for what I am trying to create. Cheers!
