Program Overview
eBayWatch/2, an eBay auction management tool for buyers. Search auctions for items of interest based on keywords and descriptions. Allows automatic bidding on items at the end time of an auction ("Bid Sniping"). Maintain a notebook of items you are interested in or have bids planned.
The program is based on a notebook metaphor, with toolbar icons for most universal actions, and context menus for item specific actions. The premise of operation is to configure search parameters within the Settings pages, use the toolbar icon to start a search and launch your browser, then use drag and drop operations to the program or a special URL folder to bring auction items into the notebook container.
Auction items are initially inserted into the Interest Items notebook page (assuming the auction has not ended). The items within the notebook containers are automatically moved between the applicable containers as the status of the item changes. If a bid amount is entered for an item, the item moves to the Bid Items page. If a planned bid amount is changed to zero, the item will move back to the Interest Items page. During a refresh operation, any closed auction items will be updated with their final information and moved to the Closed Items page.
Drag and drop support varies with the browser used. Netscape 2.xx allows dropping a link from the search results listing or the eBay item page to the program window itself or the special eBayWatch URL folder on the desktop. Communicator 4.xx seems to only allow a drop the URL folder. The eBayWatch URL folder is created when the program is first run. This folder is monitored for new items from the time of the first program eBay connection until the program is ended.
Auction items in the Bid Items page will automatically be bid on at the end of the auction, at a time set by the AutoBid options on Settings page1. The status window shows the current bid price and high bidder where known, and should the current price surpass the planned bid amount, there will be a warning beep and the bid process will abort. When the auction closes, the local text file is updated with the final auction information, and the item is moved to the closed page.
There are a number of options which will affect item movement, bid times,
closed item record deletion and search characteristics on the Settings pages.
The help texts for these items should aid in configuring the program to be an
effective tool for managing auction item monitoring and bidding.
