Good news for German OS/2 users; the magazine "OS/2 Only!" is out. It comes in the form of a book (DinA5, 150 pages), and there are plans to release it six times a year (bi-monthly). The price is DM25 ($17). My first impression was "too expensive," but I'm afraid I was a little premature. There are no ads in the magazine, all 150 pages are filled with OS/2 related articles. So you don't pay for wasted space.
Now let's talk about the content (translating the cover):
News: IBM's OS/2 Strategy
Hardware: Zip Drives from IOMEGA
Software: OS/2 System Tools
Configure: Optimize the OS/2 resources
Programming: DLL Workshop
Networks: HTML Workshop, Part 1
Astrac Visualizer
and lot's more.
After you have read the article about e.g. the ZIP-Drives, you know where to get the drivers and which FixPak you need. My conclusion is: "OS/2 Only!" is a must-have magazine for OS/2 users. Unfortunately, it is in German only. For more info, see: http://www.cefischer.de/deutsch/os2/os2only/only.htm
This and That
There are rumors that German companies (banks and insurance firms) will get a Notes 5 client. I hope this is true but I'll believe it when I have one on my machine.
TeamOS/2 Deutschland eV wrote an open letter to the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Verbraucherverb„nde (AgV)," the German umbrella organization of the local consumer-protection organizations. We told them about the case in Australia where a user returned his PC because he did not want Windows. The EULA (end use license agreement) allows to return a Win9x license, but it is not very consumer-friendly and transparent. I hope the AgV will do something to inform the consumers and help them to use the operating system they want to use. Our open letter is supported by Linux user groups. Please do not hesitate to send me any news related to OS/2 from around Germany.
