BOCA RATON, FL (February 9, 1999) - Solution Technology, Inc. (STi) has been awarded a contract by the Upstate Medicare Division of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York (UMD) to replace a non Year 2000 (Y2K) compliant DOS/Windows/NetWare imaging system with a fully Year 2000 compliant OS/2 based imaging system.
Solution Technology will be delivering the award winning Image Edition for OS/2 to be hosted on a quad processor OS/2 Warp Server. OS/2 Warp clients will be on user workstations. STi's solution will preserve UMD's existing investment in scanners and optical jukebox through enhancements to be installed in Q1 1999. Image Edition supports high speed scanning with their existing Fujitsu scanners through STi's TWAIN for OS/2 drivers. Additionally, Image Edition is being enhanced to permit hosting Image Edition's optical indexing databases on IBM's DB2 Universal Database (UDB). This will permit UMD to directly access imaging information from other applications. Finally STi is crafting a migration/reuse strategy to be able to use already imaged data from the existing non-Y2K system without requiring rescanning. The new system is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the first quarter of 1999.
"STi was sensitive to our implementation time table and met all of of requirements for our solution," said Roger Perkins, Team Leader, Systems Programming for UMD.
"We worked closely with the Upstate Medicare Division to preserve their existing hardware investments and to provide a complete OS/2 and Y2K compliant solution within the time frame they requested," said Kent Swan, President of Solution Technology.

PITTSBURGH, PA (February 4, 1999) - Aviar, parent company of Ounce of Prevention Software, announced today that, it has released Ver. 1.01 of its Oz. of Prevention System for the OS/2 platforms. Oz was fully tested and runs well under IBM's new Warp Server for e-business (Aurora) with DB2 Universal 5.2.
Included in the new version are Barcoding capabilities. Using this feature in Oz., the printed Work Order containing the Bar Code symbol for the WO Number can be taken by the Maintenance workers to the Parts Room when requesting the needed parts. There, the Parts Clerk can swipe the Bar Code symbol on the Work Order and the Bar Code symbol on the Part label. The Parts Clerk can manually enter the quantity of each part. The Bar Code device then can download a text file to the \Oz\BCFiles folder at the end of the day.
When you run "Process Bar Code Files" program, the Parts Inventory will be reduced by the quantity of each Part used. The Parts are automatically attached to the Work Order, so the task of WO Completion becomes almost painless. The format of the Bar Code files is customizable in the Oz "Preferences" section. The new version also adds the Work Order Number to the Storeroom Request Screen. When a WO Number is specified, all the information concerning the Equipment is filled in automatically. Parts requested this way are reduced from Inventory instantly, and the Parts are automatically added to the "Parts" section of the completed WO. This makes the WO Completion process significantly easier.
Version 1.01 also provides an almost mind-boggling selection of Cost Reporting options - 629,300 different reports. John Urbaniak, Aviar's President, was quoted as saying: "No other CMMS on the market has such reporting power!"
Mr. Urbaniak further stated that he was pleased, after testing, to find that Oz runs extremely well under Warp Server for e-business (Aurora). He said, "Aurora is easy to install, fast and reliable. We believe our customers will benefit greatly from the speed and power of Oz running on Aurora. One of the purposes of a CMMS is to save companies money in their maintenance management operations. With Oz and Aurora, they will also save time."
Oz. is featured on Aviar's webpage: ( http://www.oops-web.com/) and is being sold both as a turnkey system and software-only directly through Aviar's Sales Department.
Aviar, Inc. was founded in 1983 by Dr. Urbaniak to provide top-quality PC software for commercial and industrial users. Aviar's OOPS! was first released more than 10 years ago and is still in use by companies around the world. In recent years, the company has placed most of its focus on development of speech-activated systems.
HAARLEM, THE NETHERLANDS (December 23, 1998)
Dear IBM,
Our company is specialized in mail-order sales of OS/2 Warp products. Our customers asked us to start taking pre-orders for a new version of OS/2 Warp (version 5?).
We started taking pre-orders, only from people entering their data on our web-site. We suggested a price level of US $100 excluding tax and shipping.
We so far accepted over 6,000 orders and based on these orders expect a total of 7,000 orders this year and at least 13,000 next year.
So please accept our firm order for 7,000 copies of a new OS/2 Warp version for a total of US $700,000 and our expected order for at least 13,000 copies for a total of US $1,300,000 next year.
Our feeling is that this is of course only a small subset of potential customers. At the recent HCC fair in the Netherlands which attracted over 115,000 people we noticed a growing disappointment in Microsoft products and a strongly growing interest in alternative operating systems such as Linux and BeOS. A renewed OS/2 could attract many new customers and could help IBM with their sales of OS/2 to large accounts. Interest in Java-solutions would grow if there was more diversity in operating systems.
Non-delivery of a new Warp client will also mean that the people and companies who now pre-ordered a new Warp 5 Client may stop using other IBM/Lotus products such as Notes, DB2, TX Series, MQseries, SmartSuite, etc.
If you wish we can send you a list of comments from our customers about suggested functionality for this new Warp version.
Regards,
M.B. de Jong
General Manager, Mensys B.V.

WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN (December 15, 1998) - Keller Group, developer of the PMfax and FaxWorks OS/2 products, now has a special LAN version which supports Windows, NT and OS/2 workstations for small SOHO LAN situations. This provides LAN fax sharing at a very attractive price of just $299.
The new product allows "shared mode" use of the fax hardware by up to five other workstations, and the workstations can be any mixture of Windows, NT or OS/2 machines. The fax server can be any OS/2 machine on the LAN. This is ideal for SOHO configurations where privacy, routing and other advanced features of the regular PMfax LAN products are not needed.
"We continue to support the use of OS/2 by the home and small office user," says Mark Ahlstrom, President of Keller Group. "Many customers are now using Windows and NT machines in addition to their OS/2 machines, and this new product provides a cost-effective faxing solution for their office."
All PMfax products are now available for electronic ordering and delivery through the Keller Group web site at http://www.kellergroup.com/.
