Before start...

Before installing system components, as
fixpaks are, it is a good rule to close
all running applications, including
desktop enhancers such as npswps,
pmpatrol, screensavers, etc...

!!! BEWARE !!!
Make sure the temporary directory and
the directory with the *.dsk files are
not the same. The temporary directory
is removed when exiting SimplyFix
(however, confirmation is asked).

If this appens to me...

NO FILES TO SERVICE
------------------------------
If you get this message, or you do not
succeed in applying the fixpak, it means
  that:
  1) you are applying an incompatible version
  2) there are files to be removed

You will have to look for and then either
remove or rename the following files:

  LOGF000.OS2
  LOGSTART.OS2
  LOGARCH.OS2

which you will find in the \OS2\INSTALL
folder. This also applies to the files

  LOGF0000.MPM
  LOGSTART.MPM
  LOGARCH.MPM

which you will find in the \MMOS2\INSTALL
  folder. Finally, do the renaming/removal
  also for the file:

  C:\CSF_SEL.000

  if it exists.

  Restart the fixpak installation.

PREVIOUS INSTALLATION INTERRUPTED
-------------------------------------------------------

If this happened, look for the following
  files:

  FIXSTART
  IBMCSFLK.LST
  IBMCSFLK.CSF
  CSF_*

  and the following directory:

  IBMCSFLK

If they exist, rename them and restart
the installation. At the end, erase the
  previously renamed files.

UNABLE TO OPEN ARCHIVE DIRECTORY
------------------------------------------------------
This happens often if you have removed
the folders where previous versions of
fixpaks are archived.
This is no real problem. You only have
to remove the files listed in the tips
named  'no files to service...' and
'previous installation interrupted...'

How to INSTALL a fixpack...

FIXPAK APPLICATION (part 1)
---------------------------------------

Copy all the fixpak files in a single
folder; make sure the folder does NOT
contain any other file.
There have to be only files with extensions
*.dsk, *.1dk, etc...

FIXPAK APPLICATION (part 2)
---------------------------------------
Click on 'Browse' button.
This specify the temporary directory where
SimplyFix will uncompress the fixpak.
A capacity of about 30MB (at least)
is requested. The directory must
exist already and must be empty.

      !!! BEWARE !!!

All the files and folders in the
aforementioned directory will be
removed at the end of the fixpak
installation.

      !!! BEWARE !!!

FIXPAK APPLICATION (part 3)
---------------------------------------
Click now on 'browse' button.
It will let you look for the folder
where you have previously stored the
fixpak files (*.dsk).
Once you have found the folder,
just d-click on one of the files: SimplyFix
will load and sort all of them. They will
then appear in the main listbox.

FIXPAK APPLICATION (part 4)
---------------------------------------
Now you must select one of two action to
perform:

Apply Fixpak
Install (Apply) fixpak to your system.

Backout Fixpak
  Remove (Backout) latest fixpak from
  your sistem

FIXPAK APPLICATION (part 5)
---------------------------------------
OK, now that most of the work is done,
just click on 'Start' and the installation
will start.
By clicking on 'Start' all fixpak
files are unpacked into temporary
directory you have specified and then
the setup program 'SERVICE.EXE' by
IBM will be started.
You only have to follow its hints
and everything will be OK.

NOTE: DO NOT CLOSE SIMPLYFIX UNTIL
IT REACHES THE END OF THE
      INSTALLATION PROCESS !!!

How to BACKOUT a fixpack...

FIXPAK BACKOUT (part 1)
----------------------------------

Starting with release 3 of SimplyFix,
a new function is available which starts
  'SERVICE.EXE' to execute the BackOut
in order to restore the system to the
state in which it was prior to the
last fixpak installation. To do this,
only the first *.dsk of the most
  recently installed fixpak is needed.

  Click on 'Browse' button.
This specify the temporary directory where
  SimplyFix will uncompress the fixpak.
A capacity of about 30MB (at least)
  is requested. The directory must
exist already and must be empty.

FIXPAK BACKOUT (part 2)
----------------------------------
Copy only the first *.dsk of the last
fixpak that has been applied in a
  temporary directory. For this folder
the same advices apply that were given
  for the fixpak installation.
Click on the 'Browse' button to locate
directory in which you have previously
  stored the fixpak file.
Once found, just select the file in it.
SimplyFix will then load the file. Its
name will appear in the main listbox.

FIXPAK BACKOUT (part 3)
----------------------------------
  Select the 'BackOut' option.
  Go to the next page.

FIXPAK BACKOUT (part 4)
----------------------------------
  Click on 'Start' button
  and uninstallation will start.
  By clicking 'Start', the 'SERVICE.EXE'
install program by IBM will be started,

You only have to follow its instructions
and suggestions, and all will work
  correctly.

  NOTA: NEVER CLOSE SIMPLYFIX UNTIL
        THE END OF THE FIXPAK
        INSTALLATION !!!

At the END...

FIXPAK INSTALLATION/BACKOUT
----------------------------------------------
At the end of the operations performed by
  'Service.exe', SimplyFix can be closed.
The program will ask you confirmation for:

  1) completely remove the installation directory
  2) reboot to perform the next step of the
     fixpak installation/BackOut.

Download Tips...

DOWNLOAD TIPS
-----------------------
You can down load the fixpaks from a more or
less official site such as:

ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes
ftp.dessus.com

NOTE 1: Remember that the most recent fixpak
        always includes the older ones.

NOTE 2: You do not have to download the Kickers
(the disks usually needed to apply a fixpak
on your system) since SimplyFix already has
        what it needs.
