This Softpaq creates diskettes for Compaq Remote ROM Flash Utility for OS/2. The Compaq Remote ROM Flash Utility for OS/2 is divided into a Host Component and a Client Component. The Host Component is usually installed in the adminstrator console. The Client Component is installed on the target server.
software information
Prerequisites
Both OS/2 TCP/IP and LAN services should be running on the Client and Host machines. If the TCP/IP version is 3.1, the fix for Portmapper must be applied.
Compaq System Partition must be present on the target computer's hard disk.
Notes
On the ProLiant 3000, only the 300MHz and 333MHz models are supported (E39 ROM).
On the ProLiant 6000, only the PentiumPro 6/200 models are supported (E20 ROM).
On the ProLiant 6500, only the PentiumPro 6/200 models are supported (E25 ROM).
On the ProLiant 7000, only the PentiumPro 6/200 models are supported (E40 ROM).
Some Compaq servers not performing a deep-power reboot, when the flash process is initiated, will not successfully flash system ROM's. This issue is corrected in the ROM's dated 12\30\98 or later. Systems that have an earlier ROM date can use a modified flash procedure to perform system ROM flash. These systems can use the utility to setup the system partition for flash, but will need to be physically powered off and powered on to initiate a successful flash process.
The systems which exhibit these problems are:
Compaq ProLiant 1600 (P08 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 1850R (P07 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 3000 (P09 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 6000 (P40 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 6500 (P11 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 5500 (P12 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 7000 (P43 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 800 (P18 ROM).
To flash the aforementioned list of servers the following steps may be used.
1) Run the Romflash.exe utility to set up the flash process.
2) For systems with ROM's dated before 12\30\98, they must be shutdown followed by a manual power off and power on.
3) The system will boot to the system partition and perform the specified flash.
4) After the flash completes the system will shuts down and boots up into OS/2.".
The current release utilizes the System ID to correlate a ROM image with a server. Compaq ships several servers that possess like System ID's, but require different ROM images. This release of the utilty does not support such systems.
The systems that belong in this category are the following:
Compaq ProLiant 1200 (E35 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 1600 (E34 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 2500 (E24 ROM),
Compaq ProLiant 2500 (E50 ROM).
Installation
Download the Softpaq to an empty directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The downloaded file is SP6183.EXE.
From that drive and directory, execute the Softpaq file to create the following files: QRST5.EXE,128601._01, 128601._02, 128601._03, 128601._04, 128601._05, 128601._06, 128601._07, and SP6183.TXT.
Obtain 7 formatted 1.44-MB diskettes. Run QRST5 and follow the on-screen instructions to initialize the diskettes.
After creating the diskettes, delete the SoftPaq file and the other files created on your hard drive if you wish.
Refer to 'README' on the First Diskette for additional information.
