¿ Astronomy Picture of the Day [1]Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2021 April 24 IFRAME: [2]https://www.youtube.com/embed/badXkJ6BnOs?rel=0 Streak and Plume from SpaceX Crew-2 Launch Video Credit & Copyright: [3]Eric Holland Explanation: What's happening in the sky? The pre-dawn sky first seemed relatively serene yesterday morning over [4]Indian Harbor Beach in [5]Florida, [6]USA. But then it lit up with a [7]rocket launch. Just to the north, [8]NASA's SpaceX Crew-2 Mission blasted into space aboard a powerful [9]Falcon 9 rocket. The [10]featured time-lapse video -- [11]compressing 12-minutes into 8-seconds -- shows the bright launch plume starting on the far left. The [12]rocket rises into an increasingly thin [13]atmosphere, causing its plume to spread out just as it is lit by the [14]rising Sun. As the [15]Crew-2 capsule disappears over the horizon, the landing plume of the [16]returning first stage of the Falcon 9 descending toward the SpaceX [17]barge in the [18]Atlantic Ocean can be seen. Up in space, the [19]Endeavour crew capsule is expected to dock with the [20]International Space Station (ISS) this morning, delivering four astronauts. The [21]Crew-2 astronauts join [22]Expedition 65 to help conduct, among other tasks, [23]drug tests using [24]tissue chips -- small [25]microfluidic chips that simulate human organs -- that run rapidly in ISS's [26]microgravity.
