December 12, 2020 - Tropical Cyclone 03S

Tropical Cyclone 03S

Tropical Cyclone 3S was making landfall over Western Australia when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the storm. After intensifying slightly just prior to landfall, the storm crossed the coastal central Pilbara region between Port Hedland and Wickham City about early on the morning of December 11 carrying maximum sustained winds of up to 46 mph (75 km/h). Gusty winds and rain were reported in Port Hedland, but no significant damage has been reported.

Shortly after landfall on December 11, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) issued its last advisory on Tropical Cyclone 03S. At that time the storm was located approximately 61 miles (98 km) south-southeast of Port Hedland, Australia. It has already begun to weaken and is expected to dissipate before December 12 as it tracks inland.
