A strong storm swept across the United States from December 13-17, 2019, bringing snow, ice and foul weather from the West coast to the Northeast.
On December 19, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of the aftermath of this storm in the Midwestern United States. A distinct band of bright white snow blankets much of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. To the north and south of the distinct edges, the landscape remains snow-free. The storm dropped totals as high as 9 inches (22.9 cm) in Missouri, 9.2 inches (23.4 cm) in Illinois, and 6.8 inches (17.3 cm) in Indiana on December 14-15 before it moved eastward.
