Denmark

The Kingdom of Denmark, the most southerly of the Scandinavian countries, possesses about 16,639 square miles (43,095 sq. km), an area just less than twice the size of the state of Massachusetts. Surrounded by roughly 7,134 km (4,433 mi) of coastline and home to over 5 million people, Denmark consists of the Jutland Peninsula and roughly 500 islands. It is also a part of the generally fertile and mostly agricultural region known as the North European Plain.

On September 23, 2019, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of a late summer day in Denmark. In September, temperatures begin to cool before the cooling autumn days that rapidly bring chilly temperatures. According to Accuweather.com, the day’s temperature in Copenhagen, the capital city, was a very-close-to-average 59°F (15°C) on the sunny day this image was acquired.
