Sorry, it should work now :-)
Hi all,
I have got a model 8565sx, and I have some problems
to get it to boot from SCSI Hdd.
I have tried with a IBM SCSI / A adapter, IBM SCSI / A with cache and Future Domain. But I can not get it to boot if the sytem has been configurated with the refdisk.
If the SCSI controller is not configurated, I can boot the machine after the 165 code by pressing the F1 key.
I have made 2 videoes that shows the problem.
Maybe one of you have got an idea to what the problem is ??.

I have changed the Dallas RTC with a Necroware nwX287 RTC module - could that be the problem ??.

Do you still have the original Dallas RTC module? If so, you couldDo you have an original DBA ESDI HDD in your 65SX and try to add another SCSI HDD and IBM SCSI adapter to it?
attempt the "rotary tool surgery" on it to attach an external coin cell
and see if the system works properly again.
I see the message about the ADF for the adapter in Slot 8 not being available.
How did you add the @ ADF, C ADF, and the * DGS files to the refdisk? I
see the 2-8 MB memory adapter, it must recognize the POSIDs, at least... Carsten Lyng wrote:

I have tested with an old Dallas chip with coin cell battery, but I get the same error - No bootRegards
Carsten
I have copied the Adf files to a new floppy disk and have used " copy an option diskette"
If I then run automatic configuration, the system will not boot after restart.
Then I remove the ADF files for the scsi adapter and then set the configuration without
the configuration the scsi adapter, the system will boot when I press F1 after the 165 error code
I do not have the original Dallas chip, it was missing from the system when I got it.
Maybe I can find another Dallas chip and fit a coin cell battery on it.
And then test with that one to see if it works - how knows, and it is worth testing :-)

@Pertti, I do not have any old ESDI harddrives or controller, I have only got some different
SCSI drives

There are two 'versions' of the nwx287 - one with BQ3287 and one with BQ4287 clockchip - the latter with CE signalling for external nvram. https://github.com/necroware/nwX287Regards

I changed the Dallas chip ( DS1287) with another one, and fitted a coin cell battery.
Then I ran the the ref disk with automatic configuration and the machine booted nicely up on the
SCSI hdd. The first Dallas chip I used must have been bad.
why I can not use the nwX287 RTC module is beyond my comprehension - perhaps an IBM PS/2 thing ?

All that Schimmis is not gold...
Stefan, WHICH version is the one needed by the 65SX?
You must... choose wisely...

You must... choose wisely...Idk, I have both nwx but no 65SX. I could try my 55SX, however. (Also has a DS1287)

If the linked Dallas DS1287 datasheet on the 65SX page is correct, the variant with BQ3285 should be the right one.
Question is, which version Carsten tried.
