For people with kits that won't run W11, there's a new kid in town:
https://www.repaircafe.org/en/new-starter-kit-for-your-own-linux-repair-cafe/
I clicked on "find", and discovered several scattered around the SF Bay area.
It's too bad there isn't a group like "Geek Squad" that caters to Linux. But,
these sites may help fill the gap...kudos to them!

I was surprised to find 2 relatively near me. One 50Km, the other 128,
at Murcia and Alicante.

Actually though not as active as before there are several LUGs around the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a member of the SF-LUG aka Linux
Users Group. I do not post to the mailing list due to disagreement
with the administrator of that list. <http://linuxmafia.com/mailman/listinfo/sf-lug>
We are not currently having in person meetings but we meet on the 1st
Sunday of
each month from 11 AM to 1 PM on jit.se.
<https://meet.jit.si/sf-lug.org>
Browser: one will need sufficiently recent version of, e.g. Chromium,
Chrome, or possibly Firefox - in any case one that well supports
WebRTC. Dial-in (audio alternative or audio only): +1.512.647.1431
PIN: 524 338 639# physical: at the Cafe Enchante, on Geary at 26th
Ave in San Francisco.
Now it depends on the kit you are in possession of whether it
will run
Linux or perhaps not. Alternatively there are User Forums.
I use the PCLinuxOS distribution and we have a pretty good forum at <https://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?>
You will have to register to post questions but you can search it without registration.
Good luck but you will have to tell us more about your hardware for help via Usenet. I say "us" because there are many more people here
who are much more knowledgeable about these matters than myself. But
I have made Linux run on a variety of x86 based machines.
Don't you have anything similar in the US (or in Spain)? We really have
a lot of possibilities to find help to switch to Linux in France.

I don't know. Maybe in large cities like Barcelona or Madrid.

Type in your region and the words "Linux Users Group"
which is how I--
found my local San Francisco-Linux Users Group about 20 years ago to get
help with getting my first x86, a 2.4 GHz Pentium, laptop, online.
People are having fewer problems with the main GNU/Linux distributions
these days and are happy with the Android devices so the LUGs seem to be going out of favor.
Good luck...

I don't think Bobby realises - most Americans don't, just how different

BTW, there are a _lot_ of Linux Repair Cafes in Europe -- have you looked?

I believe Carlos lives in Cartagena.
A place that was inhabited 9000 years ago.
Was under Islamic rule for 500 years.
Linux users groups are not its primary concern.
If I went there I would be far more interested in its history than its Internet bandwidth. It has been around the block a few times...

I went to the Linux seminar at the library today. The turnout was rather disappointing -- two people. There were three yesterday but I thought
there might be more on a Saturday than 2:30 PM on Friday.
I did get to see Mint Cinnamon in action and I can see why it's popular
with Windows refugees. The guy running the seminars has only be using
Linux for a couple of months and it was interesting to see a relative newbie's approach. He brought a terminal up at one point but didn't do anything with it.
An article I read recently claims that many emigrees prefer Zorin OS 18windows-10-y-se-pasan-a-linux-tras-el-fin-del-soporte-oficial/>

much of the U.S., realizes just how different New York State is beyond

I am a proud native New Yorker, but I have spent less than a week of my

within 25km of my house, but I don't remember ever hearing of it before.

A soon as I landed in New York I hated it.
I wasnt that much enamored of Boston and Philly, but I had an unlimited
bus pass, and took a bus (mistakenly - meant to go to San Francisco) to
LA and hung out there. Loved the empty bits in between - especially the deserts, high plains and mountains.
My mental health requires mountains. I took what was supposed to be a 3
month gig in Indiana that lasted for a year and a half. Except for the southern part of the state it's flatter than hell. I'd ride my bicycle for miles looking at soybeans, turn around, and look at more soybeans. It's rather hard to take a leak when all there is are knee high soybeans. At
least with corn you can disappear.

Yes, there are a bunch in Europe, but one does not travel 1500 Km to get
to one. It is a different language, but also we don't see distance the
same way as Americans.
There are some in Madrid or Barcelona, which would be more practical
(just a bit), if I needed one. Likely it would be the reverse, me
helping others.

Also Spain it's mountainous as hell (2nd in Europe)
and even in the 90's you would spend several
hours (even under highways) to reach some further away places...
If I had to describe Spain, it's like a videogame map.
You have a little bit of everything cramped down.
Nearly every climate (yes, snowy and icy winters too,
and not just in the Pyrenees) and terrain.
And different cultures as well.
It's like a .7z compressed USA.

NYC is an acquired taste. It was only 150 miles from where I lived so I
did day trips. A couple of times when I had work there I'd stay a few
days.
I worked in Boston quite a bit and would rent a room for the duration. I enjoyed walking around the different areas but unless there was some event
I was headed back to New Hampshire Friday afternoon.
