Dedicated fans of the HBO series True Blood (and of punny recipe titles) will get a kick out of this playful volume. The creator and an associate producer get help from a former New Orleans Times-Picayune staff writer Shalett and Louisiana native cooking teacher Bienvenu, and the result is part series scrapbook, with plenty of stills from the show and all recipe notes and chapter intros attributed to characters, and part cookbook and cocktail guide. Twenty of the book's 85 recipes are for drinks, purportedly from Fangtasia and Lou Pine's Biker Bar, for such concoctions as Dead on the Beach, Vampade, Moonshine Rising, and Hair of the Wolf. Though vampire references and related imagery are hardly appetizing, readers who look past that will find a few decadent recipes for mere mortals. In his preface, Ball specifically recommends Summer Tallulah Huckaby's Betrothal Biscuits. Other notable entries include Up-in-Arms Biscuits and Gravy, What a Fried Chicken, Confederate Ambrosia, The Pearl in My Oyster Po' Boy, A Hush-ed Puppy, and Sookie Stackhouse's Fried Apple Pies, Classic Chess Pie, and Glazed Fresh Strawberry Pie in the homestyle Southern collection. Review: Surprisingly enjoying the drinks. I rarely drink. They are tasty. Have made the chili and gumbo so far. Really good. Made the chili for parents too and they liked it. Made double so they would have leftovers. Also fun. Great pictures from the show. Fun text. Makes rewatching with one of these meals and a drink fun.

Review: This is a very cool cookbook, particularly for any 'Truebie', aka, True Blood fan. The recipes are authentic Southern fare, and are exactly the types of dishes you can imagine the characters eating. Many of the recipes are actual food that has appeared in the show, like the pecan pie Sookie eats after her Gran dies, and the hoe cakes Lattie May make Tara after she kicks the bottle. So many different characters are featured in the book, and each has their own contribution. Sarah Newlin's banana pudding, for example!
The photos that appear throughout the book are beautiful, and bring the whole thing to life. The character introductions for each recipe are a bit twee, but that can be forgiven
The recipes are very clear and easy to follow. I've only made two things out of the book so far- Sloppy Jasons and Gran's Lemonade, but they've both been excellent. Delicious and easy to make. I plan on using this cookbook regularly.

Review: 90% generic recipes, 10% photos of the recipes. Mostly a fan book, recipes are really generic with nothing special. The photos in the book are mostly from the show. Don't pay fill price unless you're a hardcore fan. Just buy it used.

Review: The recipes are ok. We’ve tried a few. Don’t know that if re-try them. But the actual condition of the book was not good! The binding was damaged and had to be taped. Being that it was a Christmas gift for my daughter it was embarrassing to have her get a book that clearly wasn’t new!

Review: Amazing book!! Great seller!! The only hang up is the book arrived in a paper envelope as opposed to a box. One of the corners of the book got tore up from shipping USPS. Other than that everything is great!

Title: Southern cooking dripping with True Blood charm

Review: I'm not sure what crazy devil pitched a True Blood-themed Southern cookbook but may Lilith bless you! It is a seriously beautiful, hardcover book chock-full of artery clogging recipes like hushpuppies, banana pudding, gumbo, fancy shrimp cocktails, baking powder biscuits, and crawfish dip. And each page also features a full-color photo from the beloved vampire show. In the wide-spectrum of crazy TV companions, this tops them all.

Title: Delightfully True to True Blood

Review: This is a wonderful cookbook/tv show tie-in collection of recipes to have for True Blood fans who enjoy cooking on the side. The book is divided up into drinks, recipes deemed character-personal "home cooked" food, and recipes from the various fictional restaurants around Bon Temp.
Each recipe is preceded by an introduction by characters alive and (un)dead from the tv show up through season 5 without too much spoilers. Each intro adds a little personal touch and are quite accurate to the character's voice down to obscure or one-shot characters like Longshadow and Reverend Daniels to more largely recognized like Sookie and Lafayette. Followed by the recipes are just gorgeous photographs and stills from the show and some of the recipes themselves. My only disappointment is the shortage of actual recipe photographs. It would seem almost less than a third of the recipes have pictures of the food/drinks themselves but are in no shortage of stills of characters and scenes from the television show. This is a minor shame as the food picture are beautiful and take every effort to portray the final finished food in the environment they would have been made in down to Terry's chili sitting on the stainless steel counter of Merlotte's kitchen or Longshadow's mixed drinks in Fangtasia. Is it enough to take a full star off? Perhaps not in this case as this book is every bit a "fan service" tribute for True Blooders as it is a cookbook.
Something to make note of the book, the recipes therein are not heavy on "pure southern home cooking" and more a tribute to the foods that appeared in True Blood and a few "character" inspired additions to round out the theme of the show. There is a fried chicken recipe, Gran's infamous pecan pie, biscuits and gravy, chili, various other breakfast recipes, a casserole, burgers and sandwiches, ambrosia, and a few other goodies tucked away inside but each represents a chosen character and not all characters in True Blood were southern. Talbot for instance has a recipe played on a type of fruity gelato in contrast to Lettie Mae's hoecakes and even Maryann has a few Maenad smoothie treats to share.
Overall the book is a special treat for True Blood fans with a few tasty recipes and a plethora of lovely photos and stills from the show. The joy of reading each recipe in the voice of the characters breathes a special life into the cookbook and overall makes this book a delightful addition to any fan's collection.

Title: Great Cookbook!

Review: This truly is a great cookbook! First, it's beautiful...the pictures they took from the series are stunning. Second, the recipes are great! At first I was a bit concerned as there are a lot of drink recipes and the food recipes seemed pretty standard. But over this weekend I cooked 4 of the recipes and they were SO GOOD! I received rave reviews from my friends and family. This is definitely something any True Blood fan would enjoy...and especially if they have a knack for cooking!
