Are you running Synchronet v3.16 or later?

    You're ready for Avatars!

What are Avatars? Similar to personal icons and avatars in social media and web-boards, Synchronet avatars are small (10x6) "ANSI graphics" images that each user chooses or personalizes and are displayed in message headers and uploaded file details (with more uses possible in the future). Each user can select from a library of avatar "collections", modify selected avatars with an online "ANSI editor", and even upload their own locally-created avatar.

The avatars are shared across the message network (DOVE-Net) so that you see the avatars when reading the messages of anyone on the network, not just those using your personal BBS of choice. Sound fun? It is! Join in!

A fresh install of Synchronet v3.17a (dev version), from CVS as of Jan-13, should already have everything ready to go (no changes needed).

Most of you Synchronet sysops however didn't just instead it (from CVS) in the past 4 days, so for you, read on:

The setup/config instructions are here and vary only slightly for v3.16 (v3.17 is preferred and older than v3.16 is unlikely to be supported): http://wiki.synchro.net/module:avatars

The dependencies are mostly just in exec (*.js), so as long as you either perform a "CVS update -d" in exec or download a recent sbbs_run.zip (or .tgz) and extract the exec (and load) dirs, you should be good to proceed with the installation instructions which (thanks to mcmlxxix's cnflib.js) can be as simple as running "jsexec avatars install"

Looking forward to seeing your avatar of choice. Mine changes regularly (for testing reasons), but is currently my latest depiction of R2-D2. :-)
