Having just started watchin the show recently, I hope that they find someone better than David Tennant to play the Dr. Matt Smith, IMO, was the best modern Dr. to date (that's why I am a big fan of Series 7 -- so much so that I bought the Series 7 and Series 8 complete DVD sets brand new off eBay tonight)

ummm... david was the doctor before matt ;)

    1. William Hartnell
    2. Patrick Troughton
    3. Jon Pertwee
    4. Tom Baker
    5. Peter Davidson
    6. Colin Baker
    7. Sylvester McCoy
    8. Paul McGann
    9. Christopher Eccleston
    10. David Tennant
    11. Matt Smith
    12. Peter Capaldi

i really liked Tom Baker as the doctor... i don't think any others have come close... having said that, though, i do want to go back to the beginning and see them all... i've seen a few of Jon, PeterD, and Colin but missed others up until Christopher and have caught all of them since... i'm still undecided about PeterC... i didn't like him in "Torchwood: Children of the Earth" but he played a good politician and played it how i tend to see many politicians... i just didn't like him in that role and i see the same or similar in his rendition of the doctor and i'm just not sure i like it either...

Clara, on the other hand, like many of the past companions, is welcome any time her heart desires ;) O:) </dom>

I guess I had the benefit of not ever seeing Peter Capaldi act in anything notable before seeing him as The Doctor. I really enjoy his portrayal.

I'm still trying to catch up on my Torchwood, as I'm just now into the 2nd season, so I haven't seen Peter in that role yet. But I did of course see
him in Fires of Pompeii. By the time I saw that episode, it was alrady announced that he would be the new Doctor. So I watched it with a critical eye. I can't say that his role in that episode was very indicitive of his overall acting ability tho. So my exposure to Peter C is basically 99% from his portrayal as The Doctor.

I guess it boils down to, how much do you like the actor and his acting ability, and how much that actor made you feel for the character. A

Clara, on the other hand, like many of the past companions, is welcome
any time her heart desires ;) O:) </dom>

Clara is certainly easy on the eyes, that's for sure. But then so were Rose and Amy. Martha was just ho-hum, and Donna was a good friend. I'm pulling
for having Shona from Last Christmas to be the next companion.

i wouldn't call the torchwood stuff notable but it is good... i wish they'd do more with it, though...

    I really enjoy his portrayal.

peterC does do a good part... i just don't like the ""feel"" of it... i see too much of his torchwood politician in it... grumpy, festering, angry, etc...

I'm still trying to catch up on my Torchwood, as I'm just now into
the 2nd season, so I haven't seen Peter in that role yet.

i don't know that the "Children of Earth" mini-series counts as part of a season...

But I did of course see him in Fires of Pompeii. By the time I

    understandable...

the acting i have no problem with... it is the character portrial<sp?> that i don't like... i prefer a happier, more free doctor than a grumpy stick up the arse one ;)

i would really enjoy seeing david tennant's (now) wife as a companion, too... she was "The Doctor's Daughter" O:)
