    Snow blocked pantographs. Really? I'm no expert but that seems

    In the right conditions wet snow freezes on the contact wire and on
    rooftop gear on the trains, making operation impossible (unless you want
    to tear down the catenary of course...).

    Article said "snow" I think--I can see ice on the wire being a problem I
    guess but it seems like the pan could be heated to keep it clear and a
    sharp edge would "clean" the wire if you could ever get started.

    Might not be worth doing.

    On certain nights here in Portland they keep MAX running all night to
    help keep the contact wire clear of ice. They have a special ice
    breaking edge they put on the pantographs to help break off the ice but
    it can't deal with extremely heavy ice, so they have to run the trains
    over it regularly.

    If this type of weather happened more often here they would probably
    have a special heater on the contact wire like this one:
