Has anyone here enjoyed a film that was deemed a financial failure at
the box-office?

Yep! And I don't care what the critics say either - that does NOT tell me whether *I* will enjoy it or not. :-)

For me, although there is a fine element of surprise to be enjoyed with
a film that hasn't bared any scrutiny since it might be a new release, most of the time those occassions are few. Meanwhile, I've come to appreciate the commentaries of respected critics who communicate enough details so that I can decide whether a certain film is a waste of time
and money or not.
Over time, I have found that Leonard Maltin does a very good job describing the pluses and minuses of a film. From that, I can decide if
it I want to try it.His "ratings" have been quite consistent with my opinions too.
I know 'time is money,' but sometimes with all the
streaming services I will just 'stumble' on something. I
have no problem turning something off that's just not
hitting it, and I've found a few good ones that way too!
But I guess if it were a decision about spenidng time and
money going to the theater... That's a different story...

Yes.. if you're paying a fixed fee per month for unlimited
streaming, then you are good to go and browse and sample as the
mood strikes. There is no freedom like that for me. I have
better make darn sure that the hours I spend producing a dvd or
converting a file for offline viewing will count for something.
There was a time when it seemed fun to see a film for the first
time after an initial release and make it an event with friends
or family. But for me, I'm not interested to squeeze into
theater seats and deal with the smells of popcorn and the noises
of people drinking from staws and crunching their fast-food
packaging.
