• movies as $ failures, but still good!

Has anyone here enjoyed a film that was deemed a financial failure at the box-office? EYE OF THE BEHOLDER (1999) was one such film - but I thought it was rather well done in a dark, psycho twisted kind of way. An investigator is tasked to track down a serial killer and tends to protect the killer from being discovered.

Another is CURDLED. A murder-scene cleaning lady gets obsessed with the potential stories behind the murders and ends up confronting a suspect. I thought that one was very stylish - especially the combination dancing/fighting scenes.

Outland (1981) was a flop I think, but I liked it.

Another more recent flop that I liked was Surrogates.

I don't think they were disasters but they didn't do well.

I am going to give Outland a try. I missed that one (primarily because I was still in university and didn't pay attention to films in theatre very much). But I like Sean Connery - and in this film - he actually wanted the role.

Surrugates sounds interesting too. Bruce Willis brings some good fun in most of his films. A couple of oldies of his - which also seemed to be box-office bombs - are Hudson Hawk and Last Man Standing. The first is a comedy/action flick. The latter is a classy dark film noire kind of thing - the ending is superb.

I just watched them both, last night (when I probably should
    have been doing something else.)

Outland looked VERY familiar. So.. it is very likely that I
saw that in the theatre waaay back then afterall. I still
liked it this time around too. That part where the sherrif is
marked for death - the suspense was pretty good - as we wait
for how he will outsmart the assassins - very Die Hard like.
I had a couple "science" issues with it especially what
happens when the space suits would decompress.

Surrogates (2009) was pretty good too! I had never seen that
one. I especially liked the scene where the handcuffed
character gives computer instructions to the other person
"..and then hit Enter". The person hits Enter - nothing
happens. "Hit Enter! hit Enter!". Hitting Enter nothing
happens! Then he shouts "Oh.. SHIFT-Enter!" I had to laugh
    out loud at that one.
