Hi everyone,
This is an official release from the MBSE Development Team.
If you install MBSE in any other directory besides /opt, we will not
support this.
From the MBSE docs ("MBSE BBS Basic Installation"):
"MBSE BBS is default installed in /opt/mbse [on GNU/Linux]. It should
be possible to install the bbs in a different location but this is not supported. Many have tried, and and only a few have succeeded. See Filesystem Hierarchy Standard for more info."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard
TL;DR: Install MBSE anywhere but /opt and you're your own tech
support.
So what's your problem ?

What official release ?
What, where, when !
For many years I have been installing mbse at /home/mbse using
./configure --prefix=/home/mbse followed by a modified version of
SETUP.sh where all instances of /opt replaced by /home.
No issues what so ever.
Why do I use /home?
Because I have different distros or just different versions of a
distro and do not want to create duplicates of the entire mbse
directories of more than 16Gb when ever I have to test a new distro version prior to installing it over a production system.
Michael had no issues with me and others doing so and DID OFFER FULL SUPPORT.
So what's your problem ?

It's funny how you break stuff constantly and then get smart when we
say we're not going to support you if you can't follow instructions.
If you have an axe to grind, talk to Andrew, not me. I'm not here to
deal with your backasswards install with its three instances of mbtask running at once (and you wonder why MBSE goes berserk). I mean, you couldn't remember how to get MBSE to answer telnet...
...which is in the instructions, by the way. I highly recommend you
read them.

Problem possibly compounded by changing ISP's to Virgin Media a couple
of months back and yes I am in the progress of trying to contact their technical dept to see if they block any ports - proving difficult to
find a phone number or email address though. They just like to be paid
