Hockey Canada announced the addition of 2017 silver-medallist Marc-Edouard Vlasic (San Jose Sharks) for the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.
With the addition of Vlasic, Canada's roster will stand at 24 players; three goaltenders, eight defencemen and 13 forwards.
Vlasic just finished his 12th season in the NHL with San Jose, appearing in 81 games. He registered 32 points including a career-high 11 goals. He also added a pair of assists in 10 playoff games. This will marks his fourth appearance at
the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, having won a pair of silver medals (2009, 2017). Vlasic represented Canada at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, winning the championship. He also won a gold medal with Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Six of the players on the roster earned gold medals with Team Canada in either 2015 (Eberle, Ekblad, O'Reilly, Schenn) or 2016 (McDavid, Murray, O'Reilly), while four skated to a silver medal in 2017 (O'Reilly, Parayko, Schenn, Vlasic).
Through three games, Canada has a pair of wins over the host nation Denmark and
Korea, following a shootout loss to the United States to open the tournament.
