You can also try to revive this one ;)I will not try this :)
I am currently playing with my pi-star DMR hotspot.Oh, may be able to catch up on DMR (4254039)
They have added POCSAG capabilities recently.
Will try it out when I am back from my vacation.
I never played around with POCSAG, I hope you have good fun!

how does the config file looks like (if you don't mind me picking)
Interesting, so how is the POCSAG setup - or is that left to the
hotspot owner to set up what gets paged out?
I'm on DMR as well, I have an OpenSpot.

https://hampager.de
I use a MMDVM HS_DUAL_HAT for the raspberry pi with pi-star. http://www.pistar.uk/
You can group the pagers (eg countries) but I assume that most stuff
gets paged out to everybody.
I will know more when my pager is delivered (currently sold out).

I have both.
First bought OpenSpot, then MMDVM hat.
They are both nice.
But MMDVM is GREEEEEAT and much cheaper.
Also open source.
You can always sniff out the POCSAG data stream, plenty of software
for that, like PDW (Windows). :)
The MMDVM is where I eventually want to go,
ideally integrate it into my repeater. :)

I do not have any windows machine left ... (thanx god)
Bur windows is not needed, I used this:
rtl_fm -f 439987500 -l 48 -s 22.05k | ~/multimon-ng/build/multimon-ng
-a scope -a POCSAG1200 -f alpha -t raw /dev/stdin
But I still want a hardware pager ;)

MMDVM is great ;)
What kind of repeater do you want to integrate it into?
What power?
What kind of repeater do you want to integrate it into?An existing FM repeater. The radios do pass digital modes (D-STAR has been tested and works well on the hardware). A local ham has
developed a controller board that can integrate analogue and digital linking systems into the one repeater.

Indeed I have ;)If you can avoid buying crap made in china with 0 QC/QA then by all means do so.
I want to buy Alphapoc Pagers, but they are sold out and will come back
in some weeks.
There is also a chinese seller for another POCSAG pager, but it will cost basically the same ... so I will stay with alphapoc.
Best thing I heard today! This ^^ In the past I used GoldED on DOS, will I be able to read my current message bases with GoldED+ in Linux?Sure!
Thank you for your generous offer to help.how does the config file looks like (if you don't mind me picking)Mine is quit complex.
But I am sure we can help you.
Feel free to contact me via NM or in the golded echo.

You do NOT need to go that complex ;)
I am using a Hytera/Tytera/(shi) 380 with a customized firmware. I have local repeaters routing me to the big talkgroups 91 3200 etc but can also probably find some slots to dial up since our relays here are often silent. :(On 07-21-18 21:52, David Abutbul wrote to Richard Menedetter <=-I'm on DMR as well, I have an OpenSpot.

I never played around with POCSAG, I hope you have good fun!I'm familiar with POCSAG as a user and scanner monitor. The fire
service uses it for alerting members to incidents, and I have a pager
for that. I can see value in a local pager for ham use, especially as I am not always able to leave a rig running.

I feel you :) our local repeaters are often silent, although DMR had gained some popularity but not too many young joiners to the hobby.
I am 34 and most hams I know locally are older, or considerably older.
I understand this is not the same for USA and Japan.

Well I'm 51, but only got into this about 2 or 3 years ago. :-) There
are some around here younger, but most are older than me. :-) Several
of them are ex-military as well.

DMR is the cheapest of the DV modes to get into, as there's a few
budget priced radios around that apparently work reasonably well. I
got mine for the best price of all - won 2 DMR HTs in a Facebook promotion/competition. :)

I'm 50 and the vast majority of hams in the local club are older than
me. There are a handful of younger ones around too. I'm also rather unusual for a ham, being physically active as well. My idea of "radiosport" is not sitting around racking up points in a contest, but something more like ARDF. :)
I do hope we can get more younger hams,
there's a lot of knowledge and experience in our club that needs to be passed on, before it's too late.
I understand this is not the same for USA and Japan.

For the record, I'm in Australia. :) David's in Israel, IIRC.

I bought my RD-5R DMR and analog dual band HT for 56 USD including shipping. The regular price is around 74 USD.
Also the somewhat better (but monoband) Tytera MD380/MD390 are under
100 USD shipped.
Not that much.
The RD-5R is limited, but OK for a first sniff at DMR.
For the MD380 you can get a GREAT homebrew firmware ...

I don't knock the guys that just want to connect for contests, but
that's not what interests me either. :-)
My wife and I used to Geocache a lot - and did it a lot with friends.
I think it would have been cool to have our radios back in those
days... :-)
