    I think they usually choose a Fidonet Sysop to do the job.

    Hello Tim,

    I see Vince Coen calling for an election organizer.

    I VOLUNTEER!!

    I can understand how you feel, having nothing else to do
    with your time now that your beloved Chargers have announced
    their intention to leave your city for greener pastures.
    But do not despair. You still have the Padres.

    The Clippers left San Deigo (for Los Angeles) long ago.
    And now the Chargers will soon be leaving (for Los Angeles).
    How much longer will the Padres choose to stay? Seems the
    only reason why the Padres are staying put (at least for now)
    is that Los Angeles has plenty of baseball teams (Dodgers and
    Angels) as it is. But there is one city that would love to
    have them - New Orleans. So hey. Send the Padres my way ...

    What a novel thought Tim came up with! Volunteering to do
    the sysop's job for him! Or her, as the case may be. With
    Tim in charge of everything, sysops will be free to spend
    their own time tending to more important matters - such as
    attending Christmas parties and the like.

    And for those sysops who do not practice that Pagan ritual?

    The only team I care less about than the Chargers is the Padres.

    Both teams are owned by vastly wealthy people who can afford their own stadiums, charge way too much for a ticket, and turn concession people
    loose every game for the sole purpose of gouging someone for a lousy hotdog.

    The Clippers left San Deigo (for Los Angeles) long ago.

    I cared less about the Clippers as I'm not into basketball. One of the
    silliest games ever invented. Almost as silly as foozball.

    And now the Chargers will soon be leaving (for Los Angeles).

    I will await news of which means of transportation they use to go to
    their new home. Only so I can show up as they leave and sing them my
    `goodbye' song:

    Good bye....good BYE....we wish you all a good, good bye!
    Good bye....good BYE....we wish you all a good GOOOOOOOD byyyyyeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    How much longer will the Padres choose to stay?

    Who cares? They're a lousy team too!

    And by the way....all those `use' taxes the city was gonna get from visiters coming to town to watch either team? You know the ones the city bosses who
    were so adamant on the Padres new stadium and are now pushing for a new Chargers stadium (whoever didn't see THAT coming hit the (C)ontrol key!), but that never materialized, which puts the San Diego taxpayers on the hoook for yet another 20 or so years paying off bonds? Yeah, those.

    Well let me do a fast check......

    Yeah, here we go;

    In 2014 alone, the city of San diego (make that read `taxpayers') paid $12 million to operate the stadium. As of right now, the San diego Chargers are
    the only professional sports team calling the stadium `home'. They (the Chargers) paid not one nickel of that 12 mil...the taxpayers were made to pick up the whole tab!

    It gets better;

    According to their lease agreement with the city, the team is supposed to pay the city $3 million a year for rent.

    However....also as a part of that lease agreement, parking revenues, a percentage of beer, popcorn and other concession revenues, plus the city's office suite at the stadium, count against the rent. Not to mention a law suit over handicap access, which requires the city to pay the team around $1.3 million a year....which the endup is...the city owes the Chargers between $800,000 and $1 million dollars every year!

    It gets even better;

    The city made around $3.1 million off it's non-Charger activities a year or so ago....but personnel costs alone were over $3.8 million that same year! So the city's not even making enough off the lease deal to cover it's own personnel costs!

    In other words....the Chargers can leave and won;t be missed financially at all! In fact, with them gone it'll save the city money!

    I can't wait!

    Maybe they'll finally get smart and when the Chargers leave, they'll demolish the stadium, bulldoze the land and put in a giant parking lot to use for swap meets four or five days a week and get merchant space rents, entrance fees
    from visitors, and sales taxes from the merchants.

    Not really a whisky drinker, nor gin - more likely to have a rum.
