what memory manager are you using?

are you setting up EMS and XMS memory types?

my general recommendation on those older machines is to use QEMM for the memory manager and run its tuning process to allow it to optimize memory usage so that you have the most base memory available...

Back in 1994, 24 megabytes was a LOT of RAM. If I remember right, you could use HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE to optimize your DOS memory. HIMEM loads part of DOS in the memory between 640K and 1 meg, and EMM386.EXE lets programs access the other 23 megs of RAM.

DOS 6.something and above came with memmaker; I ended up using it over QEMM because QEMM came up with better memory footprints, but it crashed more. And memmaker was free. :)

    Kurt

I started runing Ribbs BBS back in 1990 on the Trs-80 Color Computer running under Os9 Level 2, then switched to a 386 running Remote Acccess, Gecho and QWMM. I downloaded the entire fidonet backbone and I was a local hub 200 in Net-109. Now I am running Wildcat and Mystic BBS. Yes, Himem.sys & Emm386.exe brings back some old memories. Now I am running the bbs systems under Windows 7.
