Understood. I believe far too many are feeling the pinch these days.

Even those that do economise are ending up agonising as well...

Oregon and Washington state have a relatively high Japanese
population, too, possibly other Asian as well

For sure. I believe it extends from at least the Mexican/US border
north to Alaska along the Pacific coast.

Makes sense, as that is the presenting coast to the other continent...
Of course, there are also large Asian enclaves on this side of this
    continent as well.. :)

Not sure about Mexico but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a
large Japanese - and other Asians - presence there as well.

Dunno. Not that I've been aware of... But lots of Mexicans have come
up into our southern reaches... ;)

So that could have been another early foothold...

Exactly. The article where I read it quite some time ago had a well
known Japanese chef opening the first sushi bar in Vancouver with one
in San Fransisco pulling up a close second. Either that or the other
way around but I seem to recall Vancouver being first. I'll have to
see if I can find that article again to confirm my memory of it.

Could have been... Both are well established now, of course... :)

    Hey Nancy!

Even those that do economise are ending up agonising as well

Perhaps we have crossed the point of no return and there is little to nothing of any real value left to economize. For example many of the fresh fish sold in the marketplace isn't really what it is advertised as being, and costs more than the real fish did before it was fished beyond sustainabllity (ie economized). With each replacement species the cycle is repeated until there are no substitutions.

    Simple economics.

    Life is good,

Sigh. There are, however, some efforts towards bringing back the
previous species to a point where they can again be sustainably raised.
And then, there's this theory that inflation provides more moola for
buying things... one does wonder... ;0
