    Maurice...

In my younger drinking daze I found gin and tonic to be the best mouth cleanser when eating hot peppers as well as extremely hot and spicey foods. Of the above quoted 'cures', I found milk to work the best, although not as good as gin and tonic.

My late wife would have a Rum and Coke on occasion...mainly if she was
ill. She'd put a small amount of Jamaica White Rum in a glass, then the
rest with Coca-Cola, and drink it down. It put her to sleep, and she felt
much better the next morning. It was the only time my late wife touched alcohol. In my case, I've never smoked or drank in my life.

Now, when I go out to eat at a restaurant, I have to have adequate
beverage when I eat. My late wife would eat her food first, then drink
down her beverage to fill up the nooks and crannies. In my case, I tend
to have several glasses of soda (usually Sprite or Sierra Mist...I'm
trying to avoid caffeine at all costs). So, I quip to the server that
"I'm into heavy drinking, so keep an eye on me". <G>

As for smoking, the only thing I want smoking is the food on the
dinner plate...or at least steaming. <G>

    Hey Daryl!

I've never smoked or drank in my life

I cannot say the same ... actually I *could* but then I'd be a liar. These days I don't drink much but the little I do I still enjoy else I wouldn't bother at all given the cost.

There is always smoked salmon. I haven't had any of that for awhile despite the fact there are salmon in the Strait just a hop, skip and a jump from where I sit as I type this reply. I believe think any of them are smoked at the moment though.

    Good stuff... :)

Probably not, if they are jumping around in the Strait themselves... ;)

    Hey Nancy!

if they are jumping around in the Strait themselves

I've never seen them jumping but I know they are there since every now and then one of the locals manages to hook a few and I hear and/or see the results. From what I've heard up near Campbell River, which is north of here, is the place to be if salmon is what you want. Way back when, John Wayne had a 'boat' (more yacht-ish I thought) up there and was known to show up often to salmon fish.

I'm not a fisher-person... but I understand that there are salmon around
here, but perhaps not good for eating due to pollution in the Lakes...
I do like to eat salmon, though.... in just about any form... :)

    Hey Nancy!

I do like to eat salmon, though

Chock full o' omega-3 essential fatty acids. I hear the wild ones around these parts have picked up some badness (sea lice etc) from the Atlantic ones that are popular in fish farms. There has been talk off and on about shutting fish farms down. Also many retailers have been falsely selling the farmed salmon as wild which is a big no-no. Definetly much controversy in this part of the world about salmon.
