Re: Shinies and not-so shiny was: shinies and sickies
I'm sorta testing a theory... that something might be thinking thatI've been wondering about that a little bit myself, lately. I'm
some replies are dupes, despite the different dates and all...
possibly in response to the opposite problem in A_L, where messages
come back as dupes with only the time-date changed... all very
weird... ;) So I'm changing the subject lines for all of them now...
glad you've decided to get the initiative to test it out. :) Let's
see what happens.
I was always a very fast reader, so I'd get through a book in a day orMe too. I just lost the ability to do it for pleasure in college.
so, often less... Books got to be a little less of a shiny when my eyes
started giving me problems... sigh... ;)
It's slowly coming back, but not as quickly as I'd like. Maybe I need
to sever myself from the electronic teat here a little bit, as well.
True... one starts to see that some things just aren't really as shinyA good example. I'm looking very much forward to [hopefully] seeing
as they appear, when necessities by necessity trump them... <G> Like
my son discovering that he could spend the same amount of money on
snacky foods for a day or real food for two weeks... and the money in
hand had to last him until the next small paycheck, in two weeks... ;)
He called me from college to report that fact, and his very wise
decision to go with the real food... ;) That was a couple of decades
ago now, but the lesson seems to have stuck, mostly... ;)
ones like that from my own little man here. He's already showed some remarkable discretion in being able to decide when it's a good idea to splurge on the junk food or save and get something a few notches
higher. I didn't really expect to see that at 8.
Guess so. ;) Hopefully it won't be too bad, and you'll be able toI'm hoping so. I finally got through the first 10 pages early last night. I'm going to try to make a goal of getting through at least 20 pages a night until I'm done. So far the writing is pretty friggin' good. Reminds me a little bit of Peter Straub.

you're really lucky, it'll be good, and you'll be able to tell her so. :)
Hopefully it will all work out properly in the end... maybe evenYeah... Well the paperwork is coming to us separately now, so I'm
already... Sounds like someone isn't particularly meticulous with
keeping accounts....
not going to be losing money like that again.

and start a great religious war that way. ;)
Probably wouldn't hurt... ;) I never stopped reading for pleasure, but
I just can't read for as long or as fast... especially when my eyes get tired...
He's had a bit more in-your-face experience on learning that than my son had at that age, I'd guess... :)

into that habit again after the first night. Which sucks, because I've got a few library books here, that manuscript from my mom, and a few others on a queue that I can't dissuade my roommate from putting
together for me.

all know some of the losses that all too often accompany that.

Sounds promising... :)It was that first night. Then the manuscript disappeared into the disorganization here. I'm gonna try to get another shot at it tonight after I finish up this email and make sure that it's laying out
somewhere where I can see it before I crash out tonight. ;)

be the best, most peaceful and accepting people that they can, and stop giving a crap about the systems that are working for each other. ;)
My own belief system is that a lot of those systems are used for manipulation too much for that to be possible, but a man can dream. Soooo much wasted on warfare that we could feed the world HOW many
times over?
Sounds like it's time to get reading again... :) At least a little...
to nibble away at the pile... :)
He'll be ok... :) He's in a position now to be able to learn the more normal things that might have gone by the wayside before... :)
And did that work...? ;) Sounds like a worthy project, and not too likely to be a disappointment... :)

him to have been, but he's wicked smart because of it. In a lot of
ways I wish that I would've gotten some of the experience that he has already; would've saved me a world of hurt. Though, of course, there will be blindspots I missed that will broadside both him and myself. I don't think parenting comes without that, usually. Tell me if I'm
wrong, though; I'd love to be able to do a perfect job.

Wait a second... Is that some tongue in cheek there? ;)
Always blindspots one misses... hopefully they don't broadside... ;) You'll not do a perfect job, no one can, but you'll probably do a quite passable one.. :) It's the most any of us can hope for... and no
matter how close to perfect a job one does, it's still no guarantee that the kid turns out as we hope... but sometimes they turn out far better than we hope, too... :)
I think that was about reading your mom's manuscript... :)
Not really... just the way I keep things in perspective... the first
bit, though, is a bit tongue in cheek, sorta... :)

No way I'm gonna be perfect. ;) Seriously, though, I think I'm
pretty good at seeing some of the areas where I dont do perfect. I'm always trying to do a little bit better, so I can at least say I'm improving. Not that I wouldn't benefit from more feedback on what I'm not necessarily doing right at any one time, of course. It's always helpful to get those blindspots pointed out. How else is one better to improve the issues that don't come in to focus with only one's self?
I think that was about reading your mom's manuscript... :)Oh yeah. That is on my 'next to read' pile at the very top, still.
The problem that I've found with my current arrangements is that I've only got the 1 room to work with here (the living room, even). There
is a chair to sit at for the computer and a couch which I use as a bed, alternating, with a futon, so that neither I nor my son get too bad of back issues from it. The chair is an office chair, and not really the best for reading. So, if I try to go over to the couch and read, I inevitably get drowsy due to my habituation of that point being for
sleep primarily. I even have that with movies now, if I try to watch them over there. It's horribly inconvenient.
I should take advantage of a few of the days that are still decent
before it starts the constant winter downpour here and try to get
outside to a park to go through it or something, probably.
Not really... just the way I keep things in perspective... the firstOh I'm sorry. That was remarkably callous of me. I must've read
bit, though, is a bit tongue in cheek, sorta... :)
that part with a lower-case 'g'. My apologies if my misunderstanding caused any offense.
I'm used to a circle of friends where the closest people to
straight-up christianity are people who go to a non-denominational
church in order to help the spiritual and moral lessons, but don't
really believe in 'God' (capital G). Being former cult kid and a
secular Buddhist, I miss and cause offense now and then.
I certainly don't believe that we're anywhere near to the Earth being stewarded to our full human potential (if we were all one with our Buddha- selves), either. ;)
Quite so. :) Best we can do is try our best, and try to improve where
we find deficiencies, whether we find them ourselves or have them
pointed out to us.... :)
As long as you get to it before she starts asking for feedback.... <G>
Sigh... Probably no room to get a beanbag chair in there, for reading
and movie watching... ;)
Now that's an idea.... or maybe go to the library...??
No offense taken... I don't expect everyone to have the same perspective as mine, but I also don't mind sharing my perspective... :)
As long as you don't take offense at my being open with my faith, we should be fine... :)
Yup... we don't even always do all that we are capable of even in our
not fully realized state.... with or without God... :)
Ah, so when you get a chance to finally read it completely, and then a chance to actually talk to her about it, she can be pleasantly surprised that you actually followed through on it... ;)
Should help break the deadlock of not being able to do stuff... ;)
Good... That's a good thing to have found... should help on more than
one level... :)
Then we should get along fine.. :) I may not be totally "safe", but I
do try to be gentle in disagreement... ;)
