Re: Shinies and not-so shiny was: shinies and sickies

I'm sorta testing a theory... that something might be thinking that
some replies are dupes, despite the different dates and all...
possibly in response to the opposite problem in A_L, where messages
come back as dupes with only the time-date changed... all very
weird... ;) So I'm changing the subject lines for all of them now...
I've been wondering about that a little bit myself, lately. I'm
glad you've decided to get the initiative to test it out. :) Let's
    see what happens.

So far, so good... I think...

I was always a very fast reader, so I'd get through a book in a day or
so, often less... Books got to be a little less of a shiny when my eyes
started giving me problems... sigh... ;)
Me too. I just lost the ability to do it for pleasure in college.
It's slowly coming back, but not as quickly as I'd like. Maybe I need
to sever myself from the electronic teat here a little bit, as well.

Probably wouldn't hurt... ;) I never stopped reading for pleasure, but
I just can't read for as long or as fast... especially when my eyes get tired...

True... one starts to see that some things just aren't really as shiny
as they appear, when necessities by necessity trump them... <G> Like
my son discovering that he could spend the same amount of money on
snacky foods for a day or real food for two weeks... and the money in
hand had to last him until the next small paycheck, in two weeks... ;)
He called me from college to report that fact, and his very wise
decision to go with the real food... ;) That was a couple of decades
ago now, but the lesson seems to have stuck, mostly... ;)
A good example. I'm looking very much forward to [hopefully] seeing
ones like that from my own little man here. He's already showed some remarkable discretion in being able to decide when it's a good idea to splurge on the junk food or save and get something a few notches
higher. I didn't really expect to see that at 8.

He's had a bit more in-your-face experience on learning that than my son
had at that age, I'd guess... :)

Guess so. ;) Hopefully it won't be too bad, and you'll be able to
just find areas that she could edit some to make them better... And if
you're really lucky, it'll be good, and you'll be able to tell her so. :)
I'm hoping so. I finally got through the first 10 pages early last night. I'm going to try to make a goal of getting through at least 20 pages a night until I'm done. So far the writing is pretty friggin' good. Reminds me a little bit of Peter Straub.

    Sounds promising... :)

Hopefully it will all work out properly in the end... maybe even
already... Sounds like someone isn't particularly meticulous with
    keeping accounts....
Yeah... Well the paperwork is coming to us separately now, so I'm
not going to be losing money like that again.

    That sounds better. :)

Not just buddhist... :) Material things aren't permanent just by their
    nature...
Well Buddhism is just a philosophy for desribing the world and how
to be the best person you can be throughout that. It's not a religion. One might say, though, that all is Buddhism, just as all is Physics,
and start a great religious war that way. ;)

One can start a religous war over just about anything... ;) And there
are a lot of different thought systems to (try to) explain the
    universe... ;)

Yeah to be honest I completely forgot about working on trying to get into that habit again after the first night. Which sucks, because I've got a few library books here, that manuscript from my mom, and a few others on a queue that I can't dissuade my roommate from putting together for me.

He's had a bit more in-your-face experience on learning that than my son had at that age, I'd guess... :)

He's had a lot of it. The kid is ahead of his time, but I think we all know some of the losses that all too often accompany that.

20 pages a night until I'm done. So far the writing is pretty
friggin' good. Reminds me a little bit of Peter Straub.
    Sounds promising... :)

It was that first night. Then the manuscript disappeared into the disorganization here. I'm gonna try to get another shot at it tonight after I finish up this email and make sure that it's laying out somewhere where I can see it before I crash out tonight. ;)

Yeah... Well the paperwork is coming to us separately now, so I'm

Burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice, shame on me... Basically what my tattoo about relationships says, though its third clause makes the pyre optional.

It's a damn shame people can't just find the ones that help them to be the best, most peaceful and accepting people that they can, and stop giving a crap about the systems that are working for each other. ;) My own belief system is
that a lot of those systems are used for manipulation too much for that to be possible, but a man can dream. Soooo much wasted on warfare that we could feed

Absolutely. He may've been exposed to a bit more than I would like him to have been, but he's wicked smart because of it. In a lot of ways I wish that would've gotten some of the experience that he has already; would've saved me world of hurt. Though, of course, there will be blindspots I missed that will broadside both him and myself. I don't think parenting comes without that, usually. Tell me if I'm wrong, though; I'd love to be able to do a perfect job.

No way I'm gonna be perfect. ;) Seriously, though, I think I'm pretty good at seeing some of the areas where I dont do perfect. I'm always trying to do little bit better, so I can at least say I'm improving. Not that I wouldn't benefit from more feedback on what I'm not necessarily doing right at any one time, of course. It's always helpful to get those blindspots pointed out. How
else is one better to improve the issues that don't come in to focus with only one's self?

I think that was about reading your mom's manuscript... :)

Oh yeah. That is on my 'next to read' pile at the very top, still. The problem that I've found with my current arrangements is that I've only got the 1 room to work with here (the living room, even). There is a chair to sit at for the computer and a couch which I use as a bed, alternating, with a futon, so that neither I nor my son get too bad of back issues from it. The chair is an office chair, and not really the best for reading. So, if I try to go over to the couch and read, I inevitably get drowsy due to my habituation of that point being for sleep primarily. I even have that with movies now, if I try to
watch them over there. It's horribly inconvenient. I should take advantage of
a few of the days that are still decent before it starts the constant winter downpour here and try to get outside to a park to go through it or something, probably.

Not really... just the way I keep things in perspective... the first

Oh I'm sorry. That was remarkably callous of me. I must've read that part with a lower-case 'g'. My apologies if my misunderstanding caused any offense.
I'm used to a circle of friends where the closest people to straight-up christianity are people who go to a non-denominational church in order to help the spiritual and moral lessons, but don't really believe in 'God' (capital G).
Being former cult kid and a secular Buddhist, I miss and cause offense now and then. I certainly don't believe that we're anywhere near to the Earth being stewarded to our full human potential (if we were all one with our Buddha- selves), either. ;)
Best wishes and moar soon, of course. :)

Quite so. :) Best we can do is try our best, and try to improve where
we find deficiencies, whether we find them ourselves or have them
    pointed out to us.... :)

That is, actually, the basal requirement in my standards when I'm considering anybody for a relationship more than just casual passing friends. I really don't care where exactly a person is at as far as they're trying to get to some
place better, as a person. Well, there are certainly some people trying to better themselves that are in places where I wouldn't go with a ten foot pole, but I'm sure you catch my gist. ;)

As long as you get to it before she starts asking for feedback.... <G>

Oh that happened well over a year ago, when I was still back in Minot, actually. I don't think she's going to ask for it again. I'm getting my feet wet in getting outside to take care of things I can't do in the apartment now, at least, so I should be hitting that very soon. Just as soon as I'm caught up
with my paper journaling, I suspect.

Sigh... Probably no room to get a beanbag chair in there, for reading
    and movie watching... ;)

Funny you should mention that... My son had a bright pink one that he absolutely loved for the longest time.. We just had to get rid of it because one of the cats decided that it was too valuable of property to pass up. There
actually is enough space for something like that, though. It just requires cleaning the bedding off of the futon and folding that up. I hadn't really thought about that, it's a good idea. I'll see if I can't come up with something or maybe find out how much a cheap beanbag may run. I'm thinking more for reading, but I do have some movies that I need to catch up on along with my son, too. Utilizing the space in that way brings a bunch of new potential to the situation.

Now that's an idea.... or maybe go to the library...??

Well I've got to go return some books from my son's account within 3 days here, so that will be happening soon. The coffee shop idea worked very nicely for me today, though. There's a place that I can walk to less than 4 blocks away and I really like the atmosphere there. I suspect I'll be spending more time in that place soon.

No offense taken... I don't expect everyone to have the same perspective as mine, but I also don't mind sharing my perspective... :)

    Ditto that. :)

As long as you don't take offense at my being open with my faith, we should be fine... :)

I enjoy discussion on all kinds of topics, and some of the ones that people consider taboo can be some of the most interesting, when it's undertaken with understanding, curiosity, and consideration. Usually I have spotted the ones that it's not safe to engage in discussion with on such topics quite a ways away. You seem safe to me. :)

Yup... we don't even always do all that we are capable of even in our
not fully realized state.... with or without God... :)

    Got that right.

Ah, so when you get a chance to finally read it completely, and then a chance to actually talk to her about it, she can be pleasantly surprised that you actually followed through on it... ;)

That is the plan, yes. :)

Should help break the deadlock of not being able to do stuff... ;)

There's also a deadlock of intertial horror from the amount of crap in such small space here, too, though. Still working on that [more internal] block at this point.

Good... That's a good thing to have found... should help on more than
