I looked anyway on your suggestion. Not NASA, but NASA isn't NASA anymore. I think they've turned things over to Elon Musk and other entities, but would they come right out and say it? Nope! I hate liars. They are the 2nd-worse form of being on the planet.

I don't believe that exists in the business world; I think their motto is "we can't make enough money". (-:

    mmm... what advertising? Oops, I'm running AdBlockPro. B^}

I wish I had that, but there is probably a yearly fee attached to it. I got in
just in time with Malwarebytes and get free upgrades and definitions. That now
costs US$60.00 per year. It does a great job of protecting my computer.

There will be some form of FB thing happening. What's FB?

FB is something I don't want. If you install Windows 10 on a drive and setup say... Microsoft Outlook as your mail client, it forces you to join FB. I dual-booted back to Windows 7 before I uttered something under my breath. (-8

Same, same. For the present I've opted for bookmarking a site that (sounds like it's...) similar to their original (pre-2007?) webforum, in the closing announcement comments.

I wouldn't have. For a recommendation I would nominate either of two Ubuntu-based iterations from April last year (their 18.04 LTS releases). I'm running both at present: with 'Xubuntu' desktops on both PCs here, with one of them running a 'Lubuntu' VM in VirtualBox... which may replace the Fidonet *function* on this PC.

Both distro versions are "reviewed" by a bloke named 'DistroTube' on YT, who goes through the installation procedure on each and has some fun with installed
software. Both are about 20 minutes runtime, and are entertaining as well as informative. (Four stars out of five, each.)

And gettng crazier all the time. I got Windows 10 free because I took part in the INSIDER pprogram. The very first thing it did was break a couple of programs I use daily. So, I uninstalled it (you have 30 days to do that) and installed it on another drive so I could then dual-boot to and from it. One of
the things they did was disable the changing of window colors. I kicked up a fuss about that to no avail and I'm not the only one, either. THEN on the February 2019 rollup they changed their voice recognition system, known as Cortana, so that you had to train it to your voice whereas the original one understood me perfectly.(!)

No problems running as a VM in VirtualBox. E.g. I've had a Win98se POP3/SMTP server (& other facilities, like intranet HTTP) that's been running 24/7@365 in
a VM for nearly six (6) years. Also, my other old Fidonet node was running on Win98se in a VM for mmm...trying to remember,,, nup... more than five (5) years, at least.

My current VirtualBox (vBox) server is a 10-year old 4Gb Dell560, running 64bit
Xubuntu. The test Lubuntu 32bit vBox VM gets 1Gb RAM, and has ~800Mb free after boot-up and while running some non-Fido stuff (OS, command prompt, and Tux Commander file manager).

The Lubuntu thing is one of 3 or 4 VMs running on the Dell, with the others being: 1x Win98se; 1x point-sized Linux Fido test system; and maybe, another old Linux system that's older than the Dell (chicken & egg thing).

I very heavily paraphrased the dialogue. It would be a frustrating exercise to
match even a single word from my effort that may even have been uttered in the flick.

The movie was known as 'Live Free or Die Hard' (released as Die Hard 4.0 outside North America), from 2007. It was fourth in the franchise, and the */rest of the world film/* title matches the digital technology aspect of the film's storyline.

It's on my playlist, for maybe tomorrow. I knocked 'Die Hard 3' off the list during the week, and want more. Particularly more Lucy McLane. :)

Xubuntu 18.04 "Bionic Beaver" Install and Review
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e86al5wcNaA

My current VirtualBox (vBox) server is a 10-year old 4Gb Dell560,
running 64bit Xubuntu. The test Lubuntu 32bit vBox VM gets 1Gb
RAM, and has ~800Mb free after boot-up and while running some
non-Fido stuff (OS, command prompt, and Tux Commander file
    manager).

The Lubuntu thing is one of 3 or 4 VMs running on the Dell, with
the others being: 1x Win98se; 1x point-sized Linux Fido test
system; and maybe, another old Linux system that's older than the
    Dell (chicken & egg thing).

    Cheers,
    Paul.

The movie was known as 'Live Free or Die Hard' (released as Die
Hard 4.0 outside North America), from 2007. It was fourth in the franchise, and the */rest of the world film/* title matches the
digital technology aspect of the film's storyline.

I don't have that one, but maybe I'll have a look.

It's on my playlist, for maybe tomorrow. I knocked 'Die Hard 3'
off the list during the week, and want more. Particularly more
    Lucy McLane. :)

I keep mine and put them in alphabetical order. Easier to find that way.

I was going to D/L this a short while ago, but I'm positive I'll need another program. Anyway, the site was confusing and wouldn't let me do a direct D/L from the states. All it showed was a list of what I would be getting and never
got. Never mind. I'm getting it now, but you better have Quantas tickets ready in case I meed help. (-:

Oh dear. Such a waste for homage to M$. All 16 would be available to 32-bit Linux. I'm only doing 64-bit now since VirtualBox insists on it.

OH, BTW. I learned my lesson after wasting a CD back in 2010 and don't waste CDs or DVDs on D/L'd ISOs as vBox can use them directly, when booting up a doover-lackey VM. So, I can check them out and dump them if I'm not happy. Ta-da!

Ubuntu do an issue every six months. The even year dot 04 (April)(e.g. 18.04) is an LTS... Long Term Support version. (I tend to leave a new April's release
to fester for a couple of months, till a point update, i.e. 18.04.2, to catch any inclusive fixes. It ain't important though.) The dot 10s are only good for six month's support. The LTS versions are supported (for security and fixpaks) for three years minimum; some are for five years.

VirtualBox 5 is on a leash, and due to be discarded. It's best to get 6.xx even if it insists on 64-bit-ness.

FYI. I came across an old util for timEd. Its FILE_ID.DIZ reads...

Both the 18.04 and 18.10 versions I got were LTS -- it read at the site and I forgot to mention that.

I saw that notification when getting it. While I wouldn't mind switching to 64-bit mode, that would probably break a lot of the programs I use, not to mention I'd have to get matching drivers for my printer. Maybe I could fake the whole thing. After all, that's what Vbox is for. I almost forgot to mention that I burned 18.10 LTS last afternoon.

Yes. Full marks for that. It's not for the faint of heart though. Get some experience with it with some other toys, first. Some few minutes of browsing the support forums at vBox would help you too. I've spent days there, all up but not continuously, no joke.

18.04 of ubuntu? that's a keeper mainly because it is LTS (Long Term Support) and you get 5 years of updates... 18.10 is not LTS and you have to update from it faster as newer ones are released... i forget the support term on non-LTS releases, though...

so I got that one, too and Virtualbox 5.something. I just may ditch Windows 10 if this works well.
