The American aviation industry is urging an end to the government shutdown in the United States. Chris Sununu, CEO of Airlines for America, points to the increasing pressure on air traffic controllers, who are being forced to work without pay due to the so-called shutdown.
Airlines for America represents major airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. "This really has to stop now, because with every day that passes, the pressure increases and the risks grow," Sununu said of the shutdown. "You're getting closer and closer to the point where those air traffic controllers are going to face real financial difficulties.
"Government agencies in the US have been in a shutdown since early October because a new budget that would have provided them with funding was not approved on time. As a result, thousands of government employees are at home without pay.
